I got a migraine yesterday. It started behind my eyes, moved down behind my nose where it stayed for ages. It's now kind of a general one. Pain isn't as bad but it's like the remnants. I've pain across my neck and I know it's going to come on strong again at some point today. We're bring dd away for the weekend and I really don't want to ruin it for everyone by being a moan. I've already taken 8 paracetamol within 24 hours.

Any tips for helping me shift it?

Try ibuprofen since you've maxed out your paracetamol limit and can't take anything containing it.

Dark quiet room for a bit, lots of water?

Did you take paracetamol at the first twinges of it?

Also, alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen, but not today, obvs, because you’ve maxed it.

Commiserations.

3 soluble aspirin in a glass of full sugar coke. It works like magic.

Are you sure it's migraine? Sounds very like a sinus pain?

You can take ibuprofen or aspirin. And you can take paracetamol still every 4 hours.

When you are through your 24 hours take migraleve (pink then yellow four hours later). Ice on back of neck, a caffeinated drink and headex (the menthol head sticks you get) will help a bit too - hope you feel better soon.

To add - Migraleve contains paracetamol so vital you wait the timings out

Thanks all. I fully intend to pick up some Nurofen plus when I get dressed.

I've a peg on an acupressure point that's slightly helping! I'm gonna have a coffee now shortly.

Yes definitely migraine. It's a tension one. My neck and shoulders are killing me.

As above, 3 aspirin in a coke (proper full fat kind). That's what my neurologist told me to do and it really helps.

I also find an ice pack helps, or those Migraine KoolnSoothe things that you stick on your head.

Hope it eases soon.

It's tricky because what works for some is a HUGE trigger for others.

For me?
A banana (potassium and sugar)
An espresso (caffeine)
With a paracetamol (obvs you can't yake this now)
A salty cracker/olives (sodium)
Does the trick

With lots of water.

But all of those are my mum's triggers!

Yes to coke for caffeine. Relaxing neck and shoulders should also help. I’d try heat across that area, if anyone can give you a massage? then google some upper trapesius stretches and do those, then ice on your neck. Repeat again later in the day.

Yoga by Adrienne on YouTube has yoga for headaches or migraines - it’s very gentle neck stretching and can help

Original syndol is back in sale, with the muscle relaxant in it. If you take them, it does mean you can't drive and will probably sleep, but when you wake up it'll be gone! They do contain paracetamol though.

Coffee was one of my triggers so I'd go with the full-fat coke tbh! Also pork, bacon, alcohol, choc, tiredness, missing a meal - try not to combine any two of these factors if yours are similar.

If you don't have high blood pressure, a pharmacist may sell you triptans but you (used to, anyway) have to fill out a form and speak to them. Triptans work like magic for me!

Lying with my feet On the bed/sofa, head on the floor, eyes closed, in a dark room. Keep cool (which isn’t easy at the minute) minimum noise.

I would try Alka Seltzer in the dark blue box. If I take paracetamol is makes my migraine worse, but the Alka Seltzer absorbs very quickly. Be careful not to take too many pain killers as they can definitely make the pain worse.

Chocolatedaim has just reminded me that when my migraines were bad I also used to get my head lower than my body, in fact my DH used to know I'd got a bad one if he woke up and I was either curled up in a ball with my head on the pillow or I had the top half of my body hanging down the side of the bed towards the floor!

Might be worth heading to your GP and asking about triptans if you get migraines regularly. They were a game changer for me.

Also I've recently been dieting and as a consequence think I've massively reduced my sugar intake. Weirdly my migraines have hugely reduced in frequency so I barely even need to take my tablets now.

Good luck, they are truly horrible to deal with.

Try a hot (I know, in this weather !!) shower,

I can fend one off or keep it down to a dull roar with all the following...

regular alternated ibuprofen and paracetamol,
hot strong coffee
and just sitting in the shower with the hot hot water on the back of my neck
sunglasses...do not let the light get in your eyes. Reflected light is a terrible trigger for me, although that will usually just give me auras and a banging head, no vomiting.

I only recently found out about The Peg, and it really seems to kill the waves of nausea which means I can get the painkillers in and keep them in. ..because once that feeling starts I am doomed to a few hours with the sick bowl.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 26/07/2019 10:54

also...forgot to say, keep up the painkillers for at least 48 hours, after many years of "repeated" migraines I finally twigged that I just was not getting rid of the one I started with and they would drag on for days flaring up

Thanks so much every one. It's gone thank fuck. I kept busy, wore sun glasses and had loads of coffee and coke! I'm now absolutely wiped out and so ready for bed... Just gotta drag dd outta the playground!
