Quick fix for a painful cold?

I know that there's no quick fix but ... I need, really need to be up and about soon. Crisis with DS1 and I need my wits about me.. Since yesterday, though, feel as though throat is thick, sore ears, slightly watery eyes, weak. Mostly it's the ears.

Taking ibuprofen. Have solpadeine on me though that was for toothache. Also paracetamol but sticking for now to the former plus lemon and honey.

Any thoughts? Am I missing a trick? Anything over the counter that might speed things up or does what might simply be a painful cold need to runs its course? Thanks.
