Dry eyes

I have dry eyes and use an eye ointment at night ( it's very gloopy almost like having Vaseline in your eye hence why night time use only )
Last night I woke up with it feeling as if I had a foreign body in it and it was very uncomfortable.
I got up used an eye bath, and more ointment. It didn't ease so didn't really sleep. Eye has been giving me trouble all day, feels very gritty etc. Have been using eye baths throughout the day. Any ideas from people who have had this or a medical professional. Thanks.

It's a bummer when the gritty eye feeling doesn't disappear at night.

My advice is use eye drops throughout the day, sorry if you're already doing this

The optician has just told me to use Hyco San Extra 3 times a day, probably for ever. I've only been using it since Friday so I can't really tell you how good it is.

I've just put my first lot of hyccoscan drops in after having my eye test yesterday & discovering that my meibonian glands are blocked. Apparently this has been the cause of my eyes constantly feeling like I'm chopping onions so hoping the drops live up to the hype!

I've had dry eyes for years due to having Sjogrens Syndrome. See your GP or optician to check it out. The baseline type stuff is awful, better to use preservative free drops. You may also benefit from an eye hygiene routine, using Blephasol and/or warm compresses.

Warm compresses really help, they melt the fat blockages in the duct. When they're blocked your eyes are producing liquid but without the fat in it it just evaporates. Hycosan helps the symptoms but won't fix it. Boots sell Warm compresses eye mask things that you put in the microwave. When I do this my eyes are completely normal the next day. I'm just not very good at remembering to do it regularly !

Try thealoz duo drops if you haven't already. Also look at taking omega 7. (By mouth - not in your eye!)

Oh and yes to warm compresses. And then massaging your eyes gently. I use that for hay fever eyes too now

KingaRoo

Thanks for the reminder ! I have one of those but haven't used for ages.

I've got the compress thing but it hasn't helped much. The optician said there is a layer that is worn due to my age hence the drops to replace this.
