Chest feeling like coming out of body

Since the weekend I have been getting odd feelings in my heart area which is also going down my neck and arm on the left side. I am waking up feeling unwell - dizzy and a bit sick, it gets a bit better with a drink but not that much. Chest feelings like its coming out of my body - obviously it isn't and this feeling isn't constant but comes on at random times.

DH thinks this is anxiety and my shoulder pain is bad posture which could be right. I have had pains in my arms / numbness for past couple of months now, peaks and troughs but always there.

Is there any way of knowing if this is anxiety or a problem without getting checked out in hospital? When I last went to hospital they thought I was having a mini stroke but I do have anxiety and if hospital hadn't said that I would probably dismiss this as anxiety and leave it. I don't get panic attacks as far as I know, am a bit stressed atm but not aware of any feeling when I get this - I wake up with it. Sometimes I find it hard to stay almost conscious, a bit like when you have heat exhaustion but its not hot - I think its hot but no-one else does. I would phone 111 but suspect they will have an ambulance round here. What do you think its best to do? Does anyone know how you tell the difference - I don't want to go to hospital all the time but on the other hand they've said I'm very high risk for stroke. I was going to wait until symptoms got really bad but then I saw someone who did that and they ended up in hospital for 6 months so then that didn't seem such a clever idea. Doesn't feel like a stroke though. Thanks very much.

Get checked out love. Even if it is 'just' anxiety you're not going to get less anxious by continuing as you are.

Please get yourself checked out at a hospital asap. Chest pains need to be taken seriously. I say this as someone who had a heart attack at a relatively young age.

You really need to go to hospital and get an ecg. I say this as someone who has anxiety and gets chest pains and pains down my arm. It needs checking out. If it is anxiety your symptoms are not going to improve until you get the reassurance it isn't your heart or a stroke and these symptoms will continue.if you know it's anxiety you can work to lower your stress levels and at least you have an answer. If it is a heart problem or other problem then you are in the right place for treatment.
Just go.

You need to get urgently checked out.

Another saying kindly to go and get checked out. I totally understand your anxiety as I suffer similarly, but it's best to go and, hopefully, get some reassurance. Try to remember it's always worse thinking about it - once you're there, you'll feel better as you've faced up to it and will be getting some sort of way forward in place. Good luck and let us know how you get on thanksthanks

I hope you've taken advice and been seen by a professional x x

Thanks very much. I haven't been yet but DH is going to take me to hospital in the morning. Unless it suddenly gets much worse when we will go tonight but difficult to do that as we've got kids.

Only had mild chest pain with aching left arm and left side of neck today but went very drowsy / out of it again and feel asleep and woke up very dizzy / shaky / hot. Gets a little better with a drink but not much. Been like this for week and half now, also had weird thing where my ankles became very swollen though went down by themselves. Only thing is maybe its just hot flushes starting but think its better to get checked out properly.

Please go asap. I had these feelings on and off all week and at age 34 and healthy didnt take notice, i had a heart attack one morning and still didnt realise, my friend made me go in and get checked, thank god she did. I was lucky that mine was mild. Not everyone is so please go

justasking111 Wed 10-Jul-19 20:21:14

can you get someone to babysit and go in tonight?

myrtleWilson Wed 10-Jul-19 20:25:01

I would go in OP if you can - I've seen a couple of your other threads re health issues and this will only nag away at you.

I get terrible chest pains with costochondritis, but my GP always sends me into A & E with a flare up just to be 100% sure that it isn't cardiac related. I've never once been made to feel an inconvenience or stupid, and only blood tests along with an ECG can really tell them what's going on.

Get someone to sit with your DC and go in tonight - you need to think of them and make sure you aren't having a cardiac incident. I hope you get some answers soon flowers

No we have moved to a new area so no-one here that can babysit and my DS is ASD and he will get stressed without me / panic if he knows I am in hospital and DH is very tired and prefers we go in the morning. I don't feel much different to past week and a half so think will be OK to wait until tomorrow morning. Kids leave about 7.45am so we can go quite early.

Good luck today OP.

Hope you've got on ok. Make sure you tell them about the swelling.

PenguinsRabbits Thu 11-Jul-19 16:06:13

Thanks very much just got back and it is all clear. Given a chest x-ray all clear and apparently impressive confused No sign of infection and bloods were all fine including kidney and liver - glucose was very slightly high but not high enough to treat (5.6) - normally its fine.

He reckoned swelling was fine as went down by itself. ECG normal.

What a relief. You've been through the mill health wise so I wouldn't be surprised if anxiety was heightening your physical symptoms. Hopefully you can be assured now and out this episode behind you.

PeoniesarePink Thu 11-Jul-19 20:37:48

You must feel so relieved.

Great news flowers

Thanks - I now suspect it maybe the start of hot flushes with palpitations as I keep going hot in chest and face about once an hour. The heart thing comes with this sometimes. Period became very irregular last month (3 in one month) and mid 40s. I told DH when I was getting one and he said I felt really hot but they recorded no temp at hospital. At least I kind of know what it is now but rather depressing you can spend years like this.

aha. I went through this A and E three times, mad racing heart, palpitations, I work in a place full of nurses they called the ambulance. Saw consultant had a full check up he said menopause, put me on a low dose of a beta blocker. Problem solved somewhat. It is horrid.
