Tramadol?

What does it do? I can get it OTC here and my DBIL in UK advised it for pain until I can see the doctor on Tuesday morning.

I dropped something really heavy on my big toe last night (toe is not broken but nail has gone black overnight and is clearly going to fall off) I need to go and get something now for the pain... any advice? Will it make me sleepy?

Ibuprofen not touching it. TIA for any replies.

Tramadol is a strong opioid pain medication. It can also be addictive.

Is there nothing else that you can take is low dose codeine? It seems a big jump from ibuprofen to tramadol.

The pain might be relieved if the pressure under the nail is eased. Can you not get medical help before Tuesday?

It's a v v strong painkiller, I was prescribed it when I broke my ankle. Took a few doses but it made me feel sick, fuzzy headed and out of control so I stopped and switched to something milder.

Thanks so much decompressing I've never heard of it before but BIL says it's available here. I'll ask the pharmacy actually like you can say, if it is that strong they can suggest something less strong maybe?

I need to make appt first thing tomorrow for next morning... (or go to hospital which seems crazy)

I jushave a worry about taking too many ibuprofen as Im going to be at my limit by this evening.

Thanks again!

I've taken it and it was quite effective but the side effects landed me in A&E. Ask the chemist.

Oh Lord! Well, that settles it, I won't be taking that then. Thanks Disfor

I take it every day and it doesn't affect me, other than as a pain killer, but I have built up a tolerance to it. You would likely feel very tired, possibly dizzy and nauseous.

Have you tried alternating paracetamol with ibuprofen?

I take it without any side effects (apart from feeling lovely and chilled and pain free). I was on six a day for years and was worried I wouldn't be able to stop but did so gradually without problems and now just take one or two a week when I need them. I know they affect different people differently though.

Decomposing Thanks, honestly, I think I need something quite strong. It seems so pathetic for a toe, but the pain is a bit comparable to toothache in my foot! grin

I can't have broken my toe as I wouldn't be able to walk would I?

Thanks Christine, that's very helpful too.

Off I go to ask the pharmacy, they shut in 15 mins! Thanks all for your experience, really appreciated.

I used to have it everyday

I’ve been off it for about a month now after taking it for 3 years. My doctor wanted me off it

Weirdly enough, I actually have less pain since I was off it.

I didn’t have any side effects but I know some people have their arses kicked by it

You could have broken it but it would be very painful and possibly swollen too.

The nail turning black means that blood has collected under the nail and that is very painful. The way to relieve that is by making a hole in the nail to let the blood out. That would relieve the pain immediately but I wouldn't do it yourself.

I am curious to know which country you are in where you can get tramadol over the counter, because it is a tightly regulated drug. I would try other pain relief before going down that route.

Injuries to a big toe should always get seen by a doctor. Hope its not broken.
