Hello everyone,

I was wondering if you can help me I was diagnosed with gallstone 2 weeks ago and had to have a stone removed from my bile duct and been told to stick to a low fat diet. just been out of hospital over a week now and been managing so far on low fat ready meals from the supermarket and fruit lots of veggies etc

But I’m starting to struggle I’ve lost a stone in 2 weeks and I’m very hungry. I’ve been looking online and it doesn’t help it just tells me what I can’t have not what I can

So if anyone has any suggestions for low fat or fat free snacks from the supermarket or shop I would be so grateful things like crisps, cakes chocolate and general snacks

Also what takeaways (I know it’s probably none of them but I heard Chinese is sometimes low fat depending on what you order) as me and the fam have one a month as treat and I don’t want to let them down. It’s hard enough cooking 3 different meals as it is

Thank you so much 😊

I was fine post gall stone op and could eat everything except Ben and Jerry’s chocolate fudge brownie.

The NICE guidance isn’t for low fat diets for gallstones, unless fat triggers your specific gallbladder attacks.

I personally found low carb high fat very effective in managing mine!

I'm post gall bladder removal and still can't eat fat without getting painful attacks. It seems like my liver isn't working properly and I'm waiting for a scan.

The only crisp type snack that I have found are pretzel sticks from an East European shop. Popcorn is also usually low fat.

I had cholecystitis a few weeks ago (infection from gallstones) and spent a week in hospital. Currently waiting for my surgery to remove gallbladder on 30th July and have been told to stick to a low fat diet.

I’m eating a lot of soup and salad, using low fat versions of dairy and avoiding snacks apart from fruit or toast with a skim of low fat butter and lots of marmalade.

For treats I occasionally have a square of dark chocolate or an ice pop. Am missing crisps though!

Did you just have the stone removed or the whole gallbladder? If the whole gallbladder I believe you can start reintroducing fats after a couple of weeks and while some people still struggle to tolerate some foods (my mum can’t have cream or sausages years after the op) many can revert to a normal diet.

Thanks for all the replies. I haven’t had my gallbladder removed yet just the stone that was stuck in the bile duct got to wait 4 weeks until I get an appointment to even discuss having it removed which my gp said they will try and get it through quicker for me.

My mum had hers removed when she was my age and has gone back to a normal diet. To be honest I just want to get it out so I can carry on with normal life.

Yes I know that feeling! There is light at the end of the tunnel.
Do try to stick to your low fat diet as much as you can to prevent flare ups between now and then. I’m trying to use the weight loss as inspiration to keep me going!
