Very mild chest pain, low heart rate and TATT

I'm approaching 50 so maybe tiredness and a few aches and pains is to be expected. We've had GCSEs and Alevels in this house and I have a full on FT job, so I so maybe I should expect to be feeling mentally and physically drained but I am shattered.

I've also noticed small twinges in my upper chest, not very painful just a bit of an ache and for the last three weeks my average resting heart rate has been around 38. I'm pretty fit, so it should be low, but is this too low.?

I don't feel unwell apart from having lost my omph and wanting to sleep a lot.

It's six weeks for a routine doctor's appointment here. Is this more urgent?

Please see your GP, or a walk in centre today. This may be nothing but it will do no harm to get an expert opinion. I don't know what the symptoms of heart problems are in women, but I do know they're different from men, which sometimes leads to a delay in seeking help.

Oh, and I do think it won't wait for six weeks. Shock

38 is extremely slow even for a top athlete. Agree you need to be seen soon .

Your resting heart heart rate could be a real concern - with the tiredness. It sounds like something is struggling and you need to make sure it's not your heart. I think you should get seen ASAP - A&E (or call 111 and get them to tell you to go if you must).

I'm in a similar age and have just this week noticed my resting heart rate has dropped to 54 and I've never known it under 70. Also mild ache in the centre of my breastbone. What would you advise me?

I have a GP appt Monday

Your resting HR: Was that measured by hand taking your pulse at your wrist before you get out of bed in morning, or by using a device? I wouldn't trust the device over a hand measurement.

Report
Runmoreorless · 16/06/2019 13:42

It is using a device but because it seems so low and I was skeptical I have been checking it by hand in the mornings. I haven't measured it as low as 38, it's been 40-44

Get thee to a walk-in centre at the very least.

Failing that, call 111 and ask advice, which I'm guessing will be as above

Note: I not medical in any way shape or form.

It's impossible for us to tell OP. All I can say ifs that I have the same symptoms as you, except for the tiredness. Although I also have a few other symptoms that you don't mention.

Anyway, I had extensive testing in cardiology, so it was taken seriously, but everything was found to be normal.

Can't you get an urgent GP appointment?

111 will send you to A&e at the mention of chest pain, so you might as well go straight there (or to a walk in if available). Hopefully it's nothing sinister, but not worth messing about with a potential heart problem.

If you phone not-NHS-direct whatever it's called nowadays, they'll probably ask you to come in & get assessed, fairly urgently. They will be thinking of silent heart attack; I don't know if the low HR from a device will concern them at all.

Pericarditis is what I thought of. Dead common in middle-older age women.

just go to A and E. Do you feel breathless?

Report
satsumasaturday · 16/06/2019 13:55

Call 111 - they might be able to offer you an out of hours gp appointment if you don't want to go to a+e (or they might tell you to go to a+e in which case do as they say)

Don't wait six weeks for a routine appointment through! 38 seems low (from my googling, not from any medical training!) and combined with your other symptoms it sounds like you should get checked - even if it is nothing to worry about you don't want to be fretting for six weeks when it sounds like you've already got a lot on your plate as it is

No, no breathlessness.

The only other symptom is maybe dizziness when I stand up to quickly but maybe I did stand up too quickly,!

I think you should be checked. Any sort of cardiac symptoms shouldn’t be ignored. If you rang 111 and tell them you have chest pain I’m pretty sure they would advise attending A and E straight away. Please don’t leave it 6 weeks. Take care.

Report
ragged · 16/06/2019 14:11

Let us know what happens? (please).

FWIW, If they were my symptoms I would completely ignore. But I can live with my decisions & wouldn't have started the thread. You obviously want some advice. Walk in centre could be a compromise place to start.

38 plus your other symptoms means you need an ECG urgently. Now.

Report
Greybeardy · 16/06/2019 15:05

A rate in the 40s may be ok if you’re fit & feel well. Postural dizziness/chest pain suggest that rate may not be enough for you though, particularly if this is all new.

What’s perhaps more important than the rate is the rhythm. A rate in the 30s may not be a normal heart rhythm. This warrants being plugged into an ECG machine/telemetry fairly promptly (ie today if you have symptoms and a low heart rate today).

Given all your symptoms, you need to get yourself to a&e or at least a walk in centre. Today.
