Pain in left side of skull

Just wandering if anyone else has experienced this, for a week now I have had a pain in the left side in the middle part of my skull, it’s not a headache it feels more like a burning pain/tender pain.
I’ve rang the doctors but my appointment isn’t for ten days.
Pain killers don’t work as it’s not a headache just a burning tingling kind of pain.

Could your blood pressure be high?

Shingles? That often starts with a burning tingling sensation. Keep an eye out for a rash.

@loveyoutothemoon that’s interesting, last time I went to the doctors my blood pressure was high and she said to keep an eye on it (but I haven’t had it done since?) could this be a symptom?

@SingingGoldfinch Thankyou, my first thought was shingles but I have had it for a week now and no rash.

Yeah it can be, but it could be anything. I'd try and get into the docs sooner, but try not to worry.

Does your surgery have a DIY blood pressure machine - you could check that.
I would try to get a sooner appointment if you can or ask one of the doctors to give you a call.

Referred pain from muscles in neck? Is your neck tight on the same side?

loveyoutothemoon · 12/06/2019 19:12

Do they have them in Boots?

My neck is tight aswell, so I wondered if it was from that. My docs has a blood pressure machine in so I will go and try that tomorrow. I will also ring for an earlier appointment although who knows if i will get one!

You can try a little self relief by feeling for a sore spot/muscle knot and holding pressure for 10 seconds or until the pain eases. You’ll know if it’s the right spot if pressing it gives you the head pain! Check muscles at front of neck too.

Could be a tension headache? I have had these, feels like someone is drilling into one small spot in your skull?

Mine was caused by a sprained muscle in my neck. Took about 10 chiropractor appointments over 6 weeks to sort it out - but the relief was so worth it!

Do try a chiropractor if you have to wait for a GP. Mine had me holding a cold compress of ice against my neck 3 times a day for about 10 minutes per session. That also helped.

There could be many causes but in my personal experience, referred pain from the neck/shoulders/tension etc is a good contender..

Thankyou all for your suggestions, I am a bit of a worrier and always think the worst so my mind has been in overdrive!
I did also think tension headache but I’ve had it for a week none stop and it doesn’t respond to parocetomal etc. It’s not like a headache pain but more a kind of burning/pins and needles pain. My scalp feels tender but only on one side. My neck isn’t as sore as my head but feels slightly tense.

Yes, ginga, that is exactly how my tension headache presented. There was no pain in my neck at all. Paracetamol, nurofen, even nurofen plus with codeine didn't touch the pain - that's why I was so happy to part with £80 a week to get rid of it!

@bibbity, thankyou that’s interesting to know, I have had a lot of stress lately and so linked it to tension headaches, however I didn’t no they could present like that. I have healthcare through work so can see a chiropractor etc fairly easily, I am going to go and check my blood pressure at docs tomorrow and then hopefully get an early doctors appointment if needed.
