I've been getting heart palpitations randomly for a few weeks never had them before in my life so it took me a while to figure out what they were. This evening I've been getting a lot and the last hour like one every five minutes
Should I be worried?

Have you had loads of coffee or coke 8n the last couple of hours? More than usual?

I'm prone to palpitations but every five minutes does seem like a lot.

No I haven't had any coke today. I only drink diet or zero coke.
I don't usually drink loads tho

Could be anything from anxiety to anaemia to Addison’s disease (rare) or thyroid problems ... I have all of them...! All of them give me palpitations. I would ask for some blood tests through the gp.

Heart palpitations are usually just "a weird and unsettling thing the body does". Occasionally they can be a symptom of or lead to something quite serious - if you present to your GP then its likely your heart will be monitored.
Try a really deep cough - the increased pressure in your chest is often enough to stop palpitations

I found l got them as part of the menopause if that's relevant. I was checked out by doctor and consultant and no issue. I still get them occassionally.
I did give up coffee completely even though l wasnt a big drinker. I hate them as they make me anxious but have been told it's not a problem.
Go to your GP. Do you think your iron might be low? Do you suffer from anxiety in other ways as it can be part of that too.

As June says, could it be hormonal? I'm 42 and getting a few peri menopausal symptoms, one of them being palpitations in the few days before my period starts. As others say, best to get it checked out by your gp if you're concerned.

I'm only 34

I went to gp today
She did bloods and blood pressure pulse and ECG
But I didn't have a palpitations when I had my ECG so nothing showed up

My blood pressure was 137/102
Pulse 98

But sent me away

I've now got a pain in the centre of my chest

See if the doctor will refer you get a Holter meter or something similar, it's just a little box with some sticky pads on leads, you can wear the whole thing under clothes - it monitors your heart for 24 -48 hours and records the activity. It's usually set up at the hospital and then you return the thing when the test is finished. I used to to get really bad palpitations in the evening, so never at the doctors, turned out to be nothing and most probably just the menopause (although like you said age wise for you that's unlikely)

Your BP and hr are fine, they are worrying though (palpitations). What did they suggest?

Report
irekd · 05/06/2019 22:48

They didn't suggest anything

Chest pain- go to A&e now to get checked. Should never be ignored esp as you've had other symptoms. You're bp and heart rate are actually quite high for a 34 year old.
As others have said palpitations can have lots of causes. Bloods may reveal something minor like low iron etc. But chest pain even if mild should be checked.

Really?
I feel like I'm making a fuss over nothing
Surely if it was serious doctor wouldn't of let me leave
I've taken some paracetamol
And I'm gonna lay down hopefully it passes
Otherwise I'll see if I can get in the doctors tomorrow

My heart rate went up to 163 while watching tv. Went to doc and after tests was diagnosed with Graves disease (hyperthyroidism). All settled after a while although it's something I will have for life. I'm 40 now but all throughout my younger days, I would get palpitations. Doc told me that any carbonated drinks would cause this whether it is coke, diet coke, gin and tonic, vodka and soda.....doesn't matter. The only fizzy drink that is not carbonated is champagne as the bubbles in it are natural.
My BP fluctuates. I'm slightly overweight and my last thyroid appt was 6 weeks ago. I've started exercising, eating healthily (although that's not the problem, it's the portion size) and I feel so much better. Hope you get sorted.
