Where to get stitches removed away from where I live

I'm still n'cd for a thread on divorce but long time MNetter and very grateful for advice from anyone who has needed stitches removed in an area they don't live in or is a medical professional.

I've just had my earlobes stitched up (due to tearing) and I need to have the stitches removed in a week.

I'm going to be at my parents' house, where I don't have a Gp and the doctor who did this procedure would be hours away.

Can anyone tell me where I can go/what kind of place to go to, in order to get the stitches removed? The doctor who did the procedure said I shouldn't leave it two weeks until I can come back and see him so I need to have it done next week.

Thank you in advance

Remove them yourself. Honestly, it's simple. Just make sure to steralise the area and whatever tools you use. I've done it several times.

Thank you - I would do and have done before with other things, but I'm not sure this time because I can't see the back of my ears 😳

Could you register as a temporary resident at a GP practice near your parents house? Failing that a walk in centre? X

I would do it myself or get a friend to help, not advisable but I removed my stitches from appendix removal as i was on holiday and didn’t want to faff about wasting a day.

You can register as a temporary resident with your nearest GP surgery and book an appointment with a nurse to remove them.

Ok I would seriously look into either attending a walk in clinic if there is one nearby; or registering as a temporary patient with your parents’ GP.

Doing it yourself is way, way down on the list of things I would recommend Hmm

Couldn't your parents help?

Our local walk in centre will take our stitches.

How long are you away for? Depending on length of time it may be able to wait until you get back.

It’s not ideal to remove them yourself, especially when you can’t see.

A nurse will do it as a sterile procedure and make sure that the dirty part of the stitches are not removed by pulling them through your skin and underlying tissue.

Go to a walk in centre or minor treatment unit.

Have your parents enquire of the practice nurses at their GP. They can do you as a temporary resident (as long as they can fit you in).

Otherwise a walk-in centre.

Don't do it yourself, when drs/nurses remove stitches they are also checking for any signs of infection and that the wound is closing ok.
