Worse news then expected from OH CT scan

Some of you might remember I posted a few weeks ago about my OH having health problems with his heart (I wanted to update original post but couldn’t find it, so sorry for new post.) You were all so lovely at the time - thank you 😊

He got results from tests and CT scan today in post today (New this was bad sign when he got results within 2 weeks and they advised it’d be 6 weeks before he heard...)

He has numerous and severe problems with his heart, calcium levels in artery’s REALLY REALLY high, left and right sides severely effected by narrowing, severe coronary heart disease and some other things the letter mentions that I don’t even understand.

Then the letter goes onto mention a “mass/nodule” in his lung which the radiographer happened to notice during heart CT.

I don’t even know how to begin processing this info, or which bit to worry/focus on first.

I had a really bad experience with my 2nd dc. Initial tests should excessive fluid around her brain. We had further tests to find out she had Down’s syndrome and complex physical health problems including a heart defect. We were told she would probably die in the womb or if she survived to full term would probably not survive labour. It was one of the most difficult decisions we had to make. Having a child with downs didn’t bother us but we had to weigh up the quality of life she would have if she survived. We made the decision to end the pregnancy at 14 weeks. I often think of her and what she would be doing now. She would have been 12 this month. My dh & I decided there was no right answer but we had to make the decision that was right for all of us at that time. We had some bleak points and grief does the most strangest things to you but we got through it together. If there’s anything I can do to help, offer a shoulder to cry on etc please dm me. Xx

I am also surprised that they notified you by letter rather than an appointment with a Consultant tbh, OP - did the letter give any indication when you would next see the Consultant, do you already have an appointment booked?

@rocketqueen1979 Did or does your OH take vitamin D supplement or a multivitamin ? Excessive vitamin D called hypervitaminosis D causes high level of calcium in blood and organs.
Sometimes, even the low levels of vit. D in the multivitamin can be dangerous if you have other health conditions such as kidney disease, liver disease, hyperparathyroidism, sarcoidosis or histoplasmosis. Or some blood pressure medication can also raise the level of calcium in blood.

I read all the time here posters recommending high doses of vit. D when someone is tired, and it drives me crazy as it is dangerous.

If this is the case for your OH, stop any supplements and adapt a low calcium diet including plant based food rich in calcium such as tofu, soy, beans, sweet potato .....

OP, I'm really sorry you've had such bad news. I'm surprised they told him this in a letter rather than face-to-face. Have they given him another appointment?

OP, I know it's scary but in my experience if it was really urgent and they would phone and bring him straight in.

I had a serious issue following a CT scan and they were straight on the phone so I would take a letter as slightly reassuring.

Hospitals are usually fantastic for serious issues so hopefully you will get answers soon.

I was surprised by the letter too rather then phone call, it’s a copy of the letter they send to the GP rather then directly to him (which I’m guessing is why it’s so hard to make sense of with no medical training.)

There is an appointment for next week with consultant and note to GP to call him in and discuss additional meds ASAP (he’s already on statins, aspirins and beta blockers) and there is also mention of an urgent referral for PET ct scan RE lung.

I received a letter saying they has seen a narrowing by my liver actually in my colon and I needed an urgent Thoracic CT scan to rule out any spread.
The following week I met my consultant who said yes, it's cancer.
I was surprisingly calm and almost relieved that now I had a firm diagnosis. Then a plan would be put in place.
The waiting for results is by far the worst thing in my opinion.
I'm happy to say after surgery, I'm now cancer free, though have surveillance for the next 5 years.
