Hysteroscopy & biopsy with anaesthetic. What to expect?

I've been referred for these.
I know what it is, a camera up into my womb etc.
Anything I might not think of to warn me about?

I'm presuming I bring pads and stuff in case I bleed a little. I'll have money to get taxi home. Anything else I should think about?

Also, can I ask whether you'll get any results back immediately after the procedure or do they wait for the biopsy results to tell you that (and how long would that take).

I had this done with no anaesthetic as an outpatient and it was bloody painful and I felt traumatised by it. If I had to do it again I would insist on a general anaesthetic. They were able to tell me how everything looked like the lining etc and said I could look at the screen if I wanted. The results of the biopsy were send out and I think it took a copy of weeks. They also did a blood test. They did have some pads there although I had my own.

I think it also suggested taking some painkillers as the procedure might cause cramping. Think it also suggested having someone accompany you to the appointment too.

The consultant told me I had the option of with or without anaesthetic so I opted for with.
Do they tell you anything apart from sending the biopsy off that day?

Had a hysteroscopy 2 months ago, it's quite painful but very quick.
I didn't have any bleeding after and my test results came back within 2 weeks.

Lissy, do they give you any feedback on the day, or just wait on the biopsy results?

I've had it done twice. It's grand. I had slight bleeding for a few days. Bring your own pads if you prefer. I was a bit crampy the day after. I also had to be collected so check that as they may not want you leaving alone after a general anaesthetic.

I have no other way of leaving than a taxi, so I'm sure they'll allow that.

I'm a nurse who works in a day surgery unit. If you have no one to collect you and be at home with you for 24 hours you wouldn't be able to have a general anaesthetic in our unit. If you have a GA you would obviously be starved so we don't recommend pain relief before hand as we would give it to you either pre op or whilst you are having your procedure. There can be some bleeding after the procedure and you should use pads not tampons afterwards, a pad is put in situ when you are in theatre and we have spares on the ward if required. Most women are up and about after an hour and keen to go home, they mainly say if they have any pain it's period pain type. We also say to stock up on paracetamol and ibuprofen for when you go home. Oh and we say to expect to hear about the results within about 2 weeks

They just commented on what they could see on the screen, it all looked OK, had a blood test after the procedure and then I left, didn't have the anaesthetic so I was able to leave straight after, just a little bit of pain after, like slight period pain.

I had a GA so no pain. Was a bit woozy for the first 24 hours but didn’t need painkillers. No results for 2 weeks.

I signed the consent forms for the procedure at my gynae appointment. He asked the nurse was it too late to do something like a 'pre-procedure consent' (something equally vague that sounded like that to my head) and she said it was as it was 20 to 5. He said that was fine and sent me on my merry way. I suppose I'll just have to wait!

He never asked me anything about that, just whether I wanted an anaesthetic or not. He never mentioned having to have someone with me.

I had the same with a general. A doctor told me when I was discharged that they hadn’t found anything to be concerned about & the biopsy results would be 10 days or so. I ended up phoning the surgery though because the results weren’t sent to me.
I took paracetamol & ibuprofen beforehand & was given liquid morphine afterwards, which was amazing! Slightly different to you though because I also had my coil removed & that caused quite a bit of pain. I bled for about 2 weeks.

My results came back unfortunately or fortunately that I had womb cancer but within a week of having my results I had a total hysterectomy and now 6 weeks later I'm feeling fully fit again 😊
