Especially at night when they aren't worse but when the itch is harder to ignore due to no distractions.

Thanks. I have E45 itchy skin cream which does v little. When its severe I use lanacaine anaesthetic cream but don't want to be using that daily.
Body shop peppermint foot lotion cools it and subdued it but I want a preventative not a treatment for just the itchiness.

I used to scratch myself raw with bio washing powder. What do you use?

Is there a rash? Any clue what’s causing it? Might be worth getting the GP to look at it.

No rash. No other irritation anywhere. Just intensely irritatingly itchy lower legs, especially at night. I have used the same washing powder for ages. I did shave my legs the other day, but moisturised (with the usual stuff) straight away after and didn't have any irritation on the skin from shaving.

DH suggested prickly heat - but no lumps and bumps and it's not been THAT warm here.

It has been less noticeably annoying through the day, so I'm hoping for a better night tonight.

Does the itching feel like something crawling under your skin & you can't keep your legs still? It may be restless legs, try taking magnesium tablets, having hot baths with Epsom salts & Magnesium flakes in & take simple painkillers like co-codamol. If it doesn't improve, see your doctor as there are drugs that can be prescribed.

It could be folliculitis, an infection in the hair follicles which spreads really quickly and is common on the lower legs due to shaving.

I used to get this, there was no visible rash or irritation. I don't have it anymore. I think it can indicate certain health issues so probably worth getting checked out.

No lumps or bumps and no restless legs

Last night, for the first time in ages, I didn't have it, so hopefully it's either settling down or dh was right and it was linked to the heat as it's much cooler here than it was at the weekend.

What age are you OP, because I got horrible itching on my shins and arms part way through the perimenopause. I ended up with something like eczema, and I'd never had sensitive skin before that. Topical steroids helped, as did not using any perfumed body lotion. I haven't had to use the steroid creams for about a year, but it flares up if I use scented lotions, so I stick to Aveeno.

That's the exact age I got itchy legs.

That's really interesting.
No idea of pre peri or whatever menopausal state as I'm on fabulous progesterone only pill and haven't had a period in 5 years +.

I’m 43 and get terribly itchy legs at night at certain points in my cycle. I’m sure it’s hormonal but not sure what to do about it.

I had horrendously itchy legs constantly and especially at night until I eliminated some foods from my diet that we’re causing me bad IBS symptoms. Eliminating the foods cleared up most of the OBS and it was a few months after starting this regime that I noticed that my legs hadn’t been itching for a long time. 6 months down the line they’re still nowhere near as itchy. So it could be dietary. Tomatoes were the worst culprit for me but it could be any food for you.
