Can't sleep as worried about DH

rocketqueen1979 · 13/04/2019 01:03

My poor DH has been ill for about 8 weeks now and I can't sleep as I'm so worried. He had a "funny turn" at work and the Docs thought it might be angina as he had chest pain shooting into arm on exertion and his blood pressure was sky high. He was prescribed beta blockers, aspirin and nitroglycerine spray.

They arranged for him to see cardiologist and have ECG. The ECG showed normal sinus pattern but they have now asked him to attend an urgent CT scan on Monday where they are going to inject something into his veins at the same time.

All day today he's really struggled with chest pain and tiredness and just before bed he vomited, and he looks awful really pale and ill. He's chosen to sleep in spare room as he's not been sleeping well and has kept me awake but now I can't sleep anyway as I'm worried something will happen in the night and I won't know.

He's gone from being active and fit to barely being able to drive or walk a short distance in less then 2 months.

I'd take him to a&e if he's been sick and has chest pain. Would he consider going?

Please take him to a&e, OP or at the very least phone for medical advice. I don’t want to alarm you, but he does sound very unwell and I’d be very reluctant to wait until morning. Pay no heed if he he says to leave it, just phone.

I don't think I could leave this overnight OP. Hope he's ok.

Thank you, I've been trying to get him to go to GP/out of hours doctors all day but he's a stubborn one and has refused, as in his words "I'm going to be there all day Monday" (tho i think he's also scared too) my "pestering" nearly caused an argument earlier as he's being pretty grumpy and I don't want to make him anymore stressed if he has a problem with his heart...

I will call 111 as this is what I was thinking to do, but if they say he needs to go to a and e i can see him refusing to go.

He needs to be seen ASAP, please get him seen, call the paramedics out if he won’t go to A&E.
The CT scan will be a cardiac one with dye, that highlights the coronary arteries, my teen daughter had one done last week.

I think 111 will tell you to get him to the hospital.

Not surprised you are worried. Good luck getting him to cooperate. Just posting a handhold for when you have a chance to look in again.

If the chest pain has made him vomit needs an ambulance. I work for 111

Is he awake? I wouldn’t be able to sleep either if I were you. I’ve been awake waiting for the next breath before now. Sworn that I wouldn’t call an ambulance as he didn’t want to spend ages in hospital (also think he was scared really).

If you call 111 will they kind of take it out of your hands a bit?

Didn’t want to read and run. Hope you did get to the hospital and get him checked out. How very stressful - it is a load lifted getting your loved one in front of a medical professional though rather than having the responsibility and worry of a potentially very ill person under your care in the house.

I hope you DH is ok. Can only echo what everyone else has said.

I don’t want to alarm you. My dad has been very similar over last few weeks, although refused to be seen. He was admitted to hospital this week and turns out he has had a heart attack. The chest pain got so bad it forced him to go to the gp who sent him straight to a&e. He is having surgery this week and has been kept in hosp until then.

Hope you DH goes to a&e.
