My ring is stuck!!

Hey, I’m new here😀Decided to register because I’ve seen loads of good advice on here, and now I have a bit of a problem myself😂.

I wore my mum’s eternity ring to my grandad’s funeral about 3 weeks ago. It was the first time I wore it in a couple of years. I was going to take it off when I got home from the funeral and I forgot. Getting it cut off my finger is not an option as it was my mum’s ring and she passed away in 1999 when I was 5 years old, so it’s very sentimental to me❤️I have tried everything I can think of to try and remove it but I just can’t get the ring past my knuckle. My finger is bruised, red and swollen and it really hurts😫! I don’t want to go to hospital because I don’t want to waste their time, plus I suffer severe anxiety and I hate hospitals😞
Any help would be greatly appreciated👌🏻xx

If your finger is red and swollen and you have tried all the obvious things like oil / soap you may have to get it cut off , unless you’d prefer to lose your finger .

There's a trick with an elastic band or dental floss to remove it - check youtube

Have you tried going out for a while and letting your hand get chilly? And hold it up a bit while you try and wriggle the ring up?
I wear a ring I can only get off when it's really cold and I work at it for a couple of minutes.

Hand on ice to cool and make blood vessels contract and shrink finger?

There's a method of removing a ring which uses thread or dental floss - youtube for a video, it'll be quicker than me trying to explain!

Yes I saw that youtube clip wonder if just winding cotton around it would work too

I had to have a ring cut off and got it repaired; you can't see the join at all. Just get it off!

It's much harder to have a finger reattached than a ring repaired

Definitely try the dental floss trick. I’ve seen this done (with ordinary cotton thread) in an A&E a couple of times - it’s amazing. Dental floss will be easier as it’s slippery.

The midwife got my ring off my fat pregnant finger with the dental floss trick, although she used cotton. It hurts, but it works.

If you can get the ring on, you can get it off again, somehow.

oil or something slidey. this is what we used when people got a ring stuck on in our jewellery store.

Wow, I wasn’t expecting as many responses in so little time, thank you all so much!

I have tried all the obvious things like olive oil, washing up liquid, soap, shower gel, lotion, string, floss, cold water. Each time, I can’t get it past my knuckle. I already have a soft tissue injury from a previous accident in the same finger. Trying to take it off when my hands are cold or freezing, just makes it very very sore and I don’t deal with pain well.

I think I’ll need to just get it cut off. Can it be fixed and made bigger if I get it cut off?

The Dental floss definitely works that is how I got my engagement ring off when it got too tight , took a couple of times to get it right . But the relief once it was off was unbelievable.

Good luck with whatever you try

Yes - you should be able to get it fixed and re-sized. (Even if it's not possible because of the design of your ring, surely your mum wouldn't want you to lose a finger)

Just hold your finger under a cold running tap. My engagement ring and wedding ring don’t come off, but if I need to have them taken off, cold water does the trick.

First of al just STOP and let it calm down. Then lubricate well with butter or oil, get your finger as straight as you can and run it under the cold tap, spin it round and up slowly, but at the same time, often there are subtle shape changes around the ring so rotating it if you can, will help. Don't do anything for a while though, let it settle for a good two hours and THEN try. Good luck 🙂🙂🙂

You got it on so you can get it off. Don't panic. Your finger hasn't permanently increased in size in just 3 weeks.
I would leave it in a bowl of cold water for 10 minutes then do the dental floss thing. It really works if you take your time and do it properly.
If not then leave it alone till the morning and get it cut off. I'm not sure who would do that though. Minor injuries unit maybe? Local fire station?

Put a condom on your finger and under the ring. Slide it off.

If the ring went on your finger, it can come off. As long as the circulation isn't cut off (caveat), then stop trying. Let your finger calm down. Then do as the video above says. It will compress the flesh on your finger so the ring can pass over.

If you want to try the fairy liquid method, the trick is to get some of the fairy liquid behind the ring at the base of your finger, then push the ring down further towards the base of your finger, so that the inside of the ring is coated in fairy liquid. Then rotate the ring around your finger to get it moving, gradually easing it forward towards your knuckle. Keep your finger straight, so that the knuckle is at its smallest. Make sure you are in a good position, so the ring doesn't get lost. When it gives, it will fly off the end of your finger and will be very slippery!

I had to have my wedding rings removed on honeymoon in Prague... they managed to use brute force but any longer and they would've needed to be cut.

Go to a walk in ... they'll get them off and you won't be the first person!
