Random numbness

I get random numb feelings that are starting to worry me. At the moment it's just the tip of my middle finger but can be both or either hands on a morning or usually all down the side of my right thigh.

I do have 2 bulging discs in my lower back pressing on the nerve root which could be the cause of the thigh numbness but don't see how that could affect my hands?

I'm on medication for anxiety and depression (propranolol and mirtazapine) could it be linked to those maybe?

I don't want to go and bother the GP again if this is just something that happens and isn't something to be concerned about? I also have health anxiety so it's normal for me to obsess over symptoms!

I started having similar about 6 weeks ago. It gradually got worse - across my hands, up my arms, in my feet, so I figured it warranted a GP visit. I’m having tests at the moment to see what it is - most likely thing is issues in my spine at neck level (getting some pain around there too now). It could be another bulging disc but it warrants discussion with your GP if it’s not going away.

Yes I have pain in my neck and shoulders too. Woke up with my left hand completely numb again this morning. All the women on the maternal side of my family have carpal tunnel syndrome so was wondering if it could be that maybe?

The only reason I’d say it might not be carpal tunnel is because of your thigh, although that could be because of your lower bulging discs?

I had my nerve conduction studies done on Friday, that felt weird but not especially painful. I’ll let you know when I get my results.

'Cricketmum84' in your case it could either be the physical problem with your discs or the psychological one with your anxiety and depression. I had very real tingling and numbness until a head scan ruled out problems there and the odd feelings were reduced in intensity or if they happened I didn't take any notice until they disappeared. In any case it seems that many people have this numbness but according to the neurologist only about half of them are found to have a physical cause. But for your peace of mind it's always worth having a word with your GP. You won't be 'bothering' them, it's their job!
