Spasm in right ear

Thisisus1 · 15/03/2019 11:13

since Christmas I have had a spasm in my right ear only.

-It comes on when I do an inward burp- it feels like a thump, flutter, spasm

-It is NOT my heartbeat

  • I am 28 and no other symptoms however just an unblocking/blocking feeling in the same ear which only started last week as I was recovering from a cold and was beginning to become more anxious over the spasm in my ear

  • since april last year every now and again my left eye lid will spasm but this is getting less often.

  • Been to see 3 different GPs. First GP said that there was nothing she could do about it, Second GP said it is Titinus(sp?) Third GP- yesterday said that she will referee me for an hearing test.

I do feel like I can hear but smothers when I am so anxious my hearing can go funny and I start to think I can hear things oversensitively.

I am so scared it is a tumour. it happens mostly when I do an inward small burb however SOMTIMES it happens if I bend down and look down.

I am stressed/ anxious 100% of the time. October 2017 my son has a seizure and stopped breathing. I breathed for him until the ambulance arrived and then he was put into a coma. This exact same thing happened again in the April. He is 4 with neurological problem s and he cant walk talk yet he is fully understanding what is going on around him.

I go to work clutching my phone and i'm an anxious mess 100% of the time. I worry about my phone ringing, letters in the post, missing calls. I am not even really allowed my phone on me at work. when he is at nursery and at home I don't go too far away incase I need to get to nursery quick. I have a 8 year old ds who need me to be happy and fine but the stress is all too much and to me the first seizure could have been last week. No one knows how scared I am as I don't tell anyone. I keep it all in. I am wondering if my ear problem is due to anxiety or a tumour. My son needs me so much to even get out of bed and he understands everything and must feel so locked in.

someone please help me. I have an hearing test booked in a couple of weeks.. I am so scared something is wrong with me and I will have to leave my boys. My boys need me, I saved his life twice by breathing for him until the ambulance came I am the one who stimulates him and moves him around even tho he is getting really heavy. I am picking him up soon from nursery and we are going to a play centre and he will be heavy however he enjoys it and other boys his age are in their so I must get him around it to.

also I say it started around Christmas... during this time my ds was ill again and in hospital and I was so stressed. I thought it was going to happen again. I had to go in an ambulance again with him as he was shaking and I thought we was going to miss Christmas for my other ds.

Christmas eve in the middle of the night I sat up watching my ds in case he had a seizure and I really thought my 8 year old son was going to have to exit the house with us to get him back to the hospital again and walk past all his unwrapped presents in the night from santa. that thought broke my heart as he probably wont believe in santa next year.

Hi I’m really not sure sorry, I’m not quite sure what you mean when you say your ear spasms either? You do sound like you’re having a very stressful time though and anxiety can do all sorts of strange things to your body, particulaly when you start focusing on the sensations and become pre occupied with them. Have you spoken to your gp? What did they say?

I have seen 3 gps. first one said she couldn't help me and that was that. second gp said its titinus, third gp has referred me for a hearing test.

its like a thumping in my ear, like a twitch/spasm.

if anyone has any experience of this I would be really grateful for advice. its just been thumping now like a pounding.

yesterday the GP mumbled something about 'pressure' but she talks to her computer screen rathe then the patient.

I had a funny spasm thing in my ear last year, not quite clicking but similar, I found it difficult to describe. I also get a lot of eye twitching when I'm very stressed/anxious and sometimes other places as well. The ear thing was the same, a muscle twitching. I was freaked out too, I get health anxiety. It sounds like you've really been through a very stressful event so I would definitely suggest getting some support with that, and also if you get twitchy muscles magnesium can be helpful.

Please try not panic. It sounds much more like anxiety, especially given the rest of your posts. Could you try treatment for it and see if that helps?

Acid reflux, low levels of vitamin b and d, and thyroid issues can all cause what seem like ear problems too.

thank you. I have read about magnesium and I will try it.

I certainly have been stressed but I would never have associated stress with a thumping/pulsing sound in my ear...sometimes its like someone is testing a microphone the vibrations I get of the thumps.

Google TTTS. I have this mildly along with tinnitus.

OK I'm not a GP but I think you have a couple of things going on here. I recognise these symptoms.

1 after a cold you can get blocked Eustachian tubes (tube between ear and nose). When it starts to clear, it will make a clicking/flapping noise. Nothing serious and definitely not dangerous.
2 when we're anxious we can often hear our heart beating in our ears. Again nothing to worry about.
3 when we're tired a muscle spasms in our eyelids. As above nothing to worry about and unrelated.

You sound like you are having a very stressful time and I'm not surprised it's affecting your health. Perhaps the GP can help in this regard. And hopefully your hearing test will put your mind at rest. Best of luck and while it's easier said than done, try not to worry.

Is your blood pressure OK? I find I have problems similar to yours when my bp is up. My DH had similar, he was examined by various GPs who could not find any cause. Luckily it went after about a week. But do talk to your doctor about your anxiety as well, s/he'll be able to help you.Flowers

I had this about 4 years ago, an on/off pulsing, thumping in one ear that definitely wasn't my heartbeat. I went to seen an ENT specialist and he diagnosed tensor tympani syndrome (I think that was the name of it). It lasted a few months and just seemed to go away on it's own. I was quite stressed and worried about it too as it's very distracting but try not to worry too much, sounds like the same thing. You can always ask GP for a referral to a specialist which will hopefully reassure you.

thanks. I have an hearing test in 3 weeks but the beating is still there when I do a hiccup/burp. I am trying to calm down about it as I have no other symptoms and I feel fine and well
