What do they look like. If they are short white things (4-5mm) I think we have worms. I have read threads on here...I just want to make sure I have covered everything.

  1. medicine from chemists (Ovex?). Taken at 1 week intervals. Is it over the counter or can I get it at Tescos? Is it suitable for a 14m old?
  2. Cut fingernails
  3. Wear underwear in bed
  4. Make sure hands are washed thoroughly after toilet trips
  5. Wash all bedding (how often do I have to do this?) Do I have to treat mattress at all? Will it stop raining so I can get it dry?

HOw long does the medicine take to work? When do they start getting flushed out? Can DD3 still go to nursery? Can someone come and scratch my bum ?

TY. Does anyone know how long it takes the worms to be killed and start to be flushed?

24-48 hours apparently. Better threadworms than tapeworms, the latter comes out in a big long poo apparently (uurrrgggh)

My dd was quite young when I discovered ds had them. We (dh,ds and I) took a pill, but dd had to have the disolved granuals. I remember being really unsure of how much she should have... and she wasn't keen!
But I think they are killed pretty quick, well withing 24 hours and the second dose (2 weeks later) is to kill the eggs, which have hatched by then... Lovely!
