Hi. I suffer with IBS and have noticed that certain foods set it off such as the usual - spicy foods, and strangely enough vegetables, especially broccoli. I also seem to have a wheat intolerance.

I was thinking of cutting out vegetables from my diet for a few weeks to see if the wind eases. I know we are all supposed to eat 5 a day but would it be ok to cut veg from my diet for a few weeks just to test things?

A few weeks ago i suffered from tonsilitis and couldn't eat for days, and when I could finally swallow I drank complan drinks for a few days. My IBS symptoms seemed to disappear - No wind, alternation of constipation and diorrhea, no bloating. I was pain free.

I know this is a strange question but would it be ok to stay on complan long term to help ease my IBS. I was thinking for breakfast and lunch drinking complan and for evening meal maybe eating a proper meal (don't know what).

I also suffer acid reflux which is making my life a misery. The IBS symptoms such as trapped wind is bad enough but coughing all night, which is a sympom of the acid reflux is really causing sleepless nights.

help

Maybe a good idea would be a simple and pure diet instead of complan, I truly think that anyone who is going to go on such an extreme diet, (and I think this sounds an extreme diet) should go and ask their doctor for a referral to a dietician. If nothing else you will loose weight on this because your diet will be so bland as obviously complan is not unhealthy just lacking in variety and rather bland.

You can buy complan in tesco, sainsbury or wherever you shop. you can also get them at the chemist.

They are nutritious drinks which purpose is for people suffering with illness and cannot eat properly. I used them because i suffered tonsilitis and couldn't swallow lumpy food as it bloody hurt too much.

My ibs symptoms disappeared.

I have just reread my thread from yesterday, I sounded rude, I am sorry I was shocked and shouldn't of been so sharp, I hope you work out your diet as I know how painful IBS can be.

Have you considered cutting down on carbohydrate? I'm a long term low carber (initially to lose weight) and on the low carb forum that I use, many people there post about the beneficial effects of a low carb diet on IBS.

I always know if I've been eating too many carbs because those pesky cramps start up again.
