His tonsils are swollen and red but not spotty, his glands are swollen in his neck and he's had a temp of 102 over the weekend.

Whta would the GP take a swab for? What could it show up?

I'm a little concerned TBH.....

Strep throat, glandular fever (although I think that's diagnosed by a blood test), viral. It's a more accurate way of deciding which ab's to put him on - if he needs them.

Yes, and of course to rule out viral and needless ABs

pharingitis

that is what I had

dreadful, poor little ds3

how long do you have to wait for results?

he said he wouldn't give him any anti-bs yet and would call me once the results are back.

His temp has gone down today but he says his throat still hurt...

for your ds.

Would expect they are checking for Strep. It can cause tonsillitis, scarlet fever, strep throat.

Ds has recurring tonsillities and has also had scarlet fever. Has your ds got any rashes? Also check what his tongue look slike too.

aww poor love. Sounds like he is suseptable to tonsil stuff too. I think we have spoken before about our ds's health. How old is your ds again? Mine has now seen consultant and we are waiting on date for tonsillectomy.

I did find some drs were reluctant to give anti-b which I understand due to over prescribing. However throat swabs more often than not confirmed bacterial. In a way I think viral is worse as takes a lot longer for them to get over.

he's 3. yo're right, we have spoken before about ours Ds's being ill.

I had my tonsills out as a child DH still suffers with it so I suspect some of our children with have dodgy tonsils too.

Is horrible for them, how many bouts is he having a year? Ds is 7 now and was shocked that the consultant basically said he needs them out. No.. lets wait and see, which I expected. Am relieved as he has missed out on alot of school and they left mine till age 16 which meant it really impacted on attendance and social stuff.

Lots of mini milk ice lollys for your LO i think

Well apart from the scarlet fever at xmas he's never had it.

DS1 has had tonsillitus alot though, probably 8-10 times in total although quite spread out.

(ds2 has never had it)
