Hi,
Im a studying mum trying to find out how (if!) parents use the internet to find out health information. I would be really grateful if you could take the time to answer these questions.

1. Where do you tend to go first for health advice?
   
2. Do you use the internet to search for health advice?
   
3. If yes, which sites would you use?
   
4. If no, is there anything that would make you use the internet to search for health advice?
   
5. How would you expect to find out about a health website?
   
6. Where would you expect to see a health website advertised?
   
7. If you havent already, do you think you would use a site like the one described above? Why/ Why not?
   If yes, when would you use it? (what type of situation)

not much help, but i generally ask my bosses... they are both Drs and daddyboss is a GP so its less hassel for me to just ask them as i see them every day!

If yes, when would you use it? (what type of situation) Strange rashes appearing,most stuff to do with the dc's generally I do try to avoid googling symptons generally as some websites give rather alarming outcomes which freak me out

7. If you havent already, do you think you would use a site like the one described above? Why/ Why not? Perhaps for minor things but more serious stuff I want a person - if it anything more than minor then there are too many variables for each individual

no - too many scare stories

none - well mumsnet only

if a reliable website that gave advice other than 'go and see your gp'

5. How would you expect to find out about a health website?

if nhs direct did one it would be in the press or at docotrs surgery. Due to all the scare stories out on the www would be wary of anything not from a verified source.

only if it had really advice and i could trust it

when it wasn't something really bad and urgent but a mild worry.

Yep

Tends to be academic papers or if pregnancy related I'd go to pregnancy sites.

I wouldn't and would be a bit dubious of using a site that advertised widely.

When I wanted to find out more about a GP diagnosis, or if I wanted to find out what symptoms could indicate so I could assess whether or not it was worth getting treatment or could safely ignore it for a week to see if it got better on it's own.
