Keep spraining my ankle

Last year i hurt my ankle running-a small avulsion fracture and bad sprain.

It got better relatively quickly. Had physio, did exercise etc and returned cautiously to running after a couple of months.

Since then it’s been really unpredictable. I can run fine for long distances but then a small dip or soft ground will catch me out and it will go again.

This has happened 4 times since the initial injury although never as bad.

I’m so worried that this is it now forever and I’ll never be able to run or even walk without fear of it happening again and that eCh time it happens I’m doing more damage.

Any advice of the best route to take? I’m prepared to through money at it but don’t know if sports therapy/physio or gp will be best?

When I broke my ankle the physio said it happened because of weak ligaments and gave me a sheet of simple exercises to do to strengthen them. Maybe try Googling and see if they help?

Thanks-I thought I knew all the ankle exercises going but I’ve just googled actual ligament strengthening and found some new ones so will give them a go. I’m probably guilty of stopping them once it feels better again.

My physio recommended a wobble board. I snapped ankle ligament and was same as you - just kept turning over. Did ankle strengthening exercises and stood on bad leg on wobble board for 2 mins at a time at least one a day. Definitely all helped!

I keep turning my ankle (outwards) after a massive sprain nearly 4 bloody years ago Hmm.

My physio was useless, but the only thing that was good advice was that whilst sitting on the sofa, have your foot propped up and 'write' the alphabet with your toes pointed. In lower case then upper case Grin.

And yes yes to a wobble board.

Also look at kinesio tape - helps me no end when it's bad.
