Is it possible to have a migrane that isn't really painful.

had this headache thingy for 2 days now.

Started with a throbbing on one side of the head and then later a full on headache. woke up this morning and started the same.

I never had a migrane before but looked on nhs direct and the symptoms looked similar, but my other friend who has them has to lie in a darkened room for days on end till them go.

So does anyone else have not as painful migranes.

yes - my migraines are an issue because in my case the stuff that comes with the aura (visual disturbances, problems speaking) are so severe and because they leave me feeling completely wiped out for 4-5 days. The actual headache isn't too bad.

I think the main defining factor for a migraine is debilitating pain - maybe your headache is due to dehydratin/ tension?

Does not sound like a migraine to me as you don't have any other symptons - light/smell aversion, pins & needles, flashing lights etc.

Is your vision OK?

Give it another 24 hours and then see GP

must say I never get headaches for as long as that though.
Are you sure it's a migraine? Do you have any other symptoms that make you think it?

i mean one of the defining factors.

My migraines are always intensely painful, but there are other symptoms, sensitivity to light, blurry vision or flashes/floaters in eyes, nausea. I get all of these with pain, I'm ot sure about without but could be?

have you changed your caffeine intake? caffeine-related headaches can be surprisingly bad.

Sounds like a tension headache or dehydration. Upping your water should help but a massage should work wonders. Also, you could try peppermint oil in the bath. Another reason could be PMT - I sometimes get one that lasts for a week beforehand.

come to think of it i have cut out all the crap i was eating to lose a few pounds, I started exercising this week as well.

I have had problems focusing a bit, and when I reading a book with ds last night I struggled a bit, but just put it down to the headache.

I have to make sure I wear my sunglasses when I go out and the school playground is making me feel crazy t the moment like I need to get away as soon as possible.

You don't sound like you have migraine, bouncy. Can you put your chin to your chest easily?

Report
bouncy · 06/06/2007 19:19

yes i can do that

I think a massage sounds like a really good idea. It will hurt like hell though. Do you not think it could be a detox effect if you have changed your diet drastically. Absolutely agree about the water. Drink as much as is physically possible. I do sympathise. I get headaches which last for four or five days and the only way to get rid of them is about 10 hours sleep. Or more if you can.

it's unusual ( but not unheard of) to wake up with an eye-related headache as eyes which have been resting all night usually don't give trouble. The reason I asked about touching your chest with your chin is that it can apparently be difficult to do that with meningitis.
Really, bouncy, after that length of time I think you would be better to see your GP.

I have been seeing a doctor for another reason, due to see them early next week. I have had a few medical problems recently and been to the doctors more this year than I have done in the past 5 years. i did speak to my doctor last year when I was having headaches and when I told her the symptoms she said it doesn't sound serious and to come back if the headaches haven't gone in a few weeks, she said people suffer from headaches that last a while.

Been under a little stress recently, so I guess that could be related.

Will change pillow and see if that helps, if not I will call the doctor tomorrow and ask for advice.

Thanks
