Hi my 12wk old DD has to go and have a hip scan next week as clicky hips and asymmetry of creases was picked up at her 8wk check. Has anyone had to go for this? If so could you please tell me what to expect - thank you!

DTD2 had a hip scna as she was breech. They simply undid her nappy - one side at a time and she had an ultrasound - like when you are preg.

She slept through the whole thing!!!

We were given verbal 'unofficial' results there and then. Official results were sent to GP.

So did I until they did it!!!!

If only they would explain, or at least put ultrasound on the letter it would panic us a whole lot less. Especially as I was asked to report to radiology department which I associate more with X-Rays and big scarey scanners than little innocuous ultrasound.

DS1 also had this - just to warn you though we had to return for further checks (x-ray). Ther is nothing to worry about for this it was just as they couldn't see the 'head of the femur'. Many children don't have this emerge until later and it is nothing to worry about.

DS1 had his x-rays a few months later and all is fine. There reallt is nothign to worry about.

Hi, my five month old had this about a month ago (the ped thought maybe his hips weren't as flexible as they perhaps should be), honestly it is nothing to worry about - it is completely painless for them. They do have to be pretty still for the scan, but all I had to do was hold him still - no anaesthetic or anything was needed. DS was gurgling away and smiling at the sonographer, so he must have been happy enough.

I was able to ask the sonographer if she saw anything to worry about (luckily she said not) and the ped rang me the next day and gave DS the all clear...

All the best,

DD had one of these as well, but she was terrified of the ultrasound and had to be physically held down by DH and the assistant woman, I was in tears

I would recommend a toy or rattle to wave to distract her as I didn't have one, and needed one!

Dd had this as I was born with a dislocated hip. It was fine. It is fantastic that they do it, if something is wrong the treatment is so much simpler and more effective when they are this age.

It was routine when I had dd at her 6 week check. Just an ultrasound , nothing invasive.
