Can anyone help with these blood test results?

Hello, just wondering if anyone would be able to shed any light on these blood tests I’ve had.

I had a full anemia profile and my thyroid levels checked because for the last grew years I have felt absolutely awful, fatigue zero energy, hair falling out, legs burning when I walk up the stairs etc.

I paid for them to be done but they don’t analyse them they just tell if they fall in the reference range or no, I’m guessing that the normal range.

If I want to actually talk to some one it’s another £150 so I thought I’d see if I can find anyone knowledgable on here first.

Basically all my levels are in the “normal” range but quite a few are only just in the lower end of normal and I’m wondering if this is why I am feeling so awful, ferritin for instance is 19, the range is 15-150, I’ve read that to feel good ferritin needs to be 50 or above so mine is way off that?

Here’s the other results, normal range in brackets :

Mean cell volume- 85.2fl (80-100)
Platelets 173 (150-410)
White blood cell count 4.2 (4-10)
Neutrophils 2.36 (2-7)
Lymphocytes 1.56 (1.50-4)
Monocytes 0.23 (0.20- 1)
Basophils- 0.02 (0.01- 0.10)
Serum folate 6.4 (greater than 3)
Transferring saturation 22% (20-55%)

My Thyroids also checked and level of TSH 1.6 (0.35-4.50)

Cortisol was 373 at 11am.

Any help appreciated, is it worth me going to my gp? Could any of these indicate why I feel so awful?

They're normal. Cortisol isn't usually tested at that time of day - bit pointless paying to get inappropriate tests done, especially when they don't help analyse the results.

Also, without a haemoglobin level they haven't done a 'full anaemia profile'.

Hi, OP. I felt like that for a long time - and I've had a lot of blood tests. I feel a lot better now I'm on a little extra oetrogen.

The Auto-immune Board might be able to help with your thyroid questions.

Thanks for the replies, They’ve tested haemoglobin, I only posted the levels that were just into normal ranges

hi, OP

have you have you had your Vitamin D level checked , ?
A lot of your symptoms could occur with Vit D deficiency/insufficiency. Just a thought ..!

Hello, yes you’re right, I have had problems with that in the past, I’ve not had it done this time but a few months ago it was ok, I’ve also been getting lots of sun.

Ferritin - a few years ago I was told by an nhs endo that 50 was borderline, and a print out confirmed this, the gp agreed to try getting it higher as I had some restless leg issues and in the elderly this can go if over 70. (I'm not elderly! Bit odd.)

Spent a long time getting it up and I do notice a difference. I knew as soon as it was dipping again. I developed really bad ibs from the tablets though and a lovely gp helped me work out drinking milk in decaf tea/ rooibos all day wasn't helping - stopped doing this and my iron bounced back as well as the ibs calmed. Also had lots of iron rich food with orange juice.

You do need good iron levels to support thyroid health as well as good iodine levels from dairy and white fish, so you could look at boosting that for a while.

Did they check b12 levels? I feel awful when mine start to drop low.

Thyroid level is normal though usually a bit lower in healthy people - but it does naturally fluctuate and fluctuates during the day too (higher in the morning) and certainly people low in iodine (and possibly iron) can have that sort of level. I'd consider another test in a year if you're still unwell to check it's ok. Don't overdose on iodine just take a vitamin with the rda in.

Your folate is in range but worth getting higher too as your symptomatic. Better off in the upper third of the range.

Just saw your ferritin which is way too low. It's probably why your hair is falling out, which can happen around ~50.

And yes definitely get your Vitamin D and B12 tested.

Next time you get your thyroid checked get it tested as early as possible in the morning. 8/9am as it's higher in the morning and drops throughout the day. You may find you are suddenly above range...

Thanks for your reply 9am, my vitamin b12 was tested, it is 404 (range 197-771).

Will look at getting the vitamin d done Smile

Not awful, but also worth getting higher. Studies have shown deficiencies can appear around levels of 550.

Good luck. :)
