Pink eye without pink eyes?

Is it possible to have "pink eye" (i.e., conjunctivitis) without actually having pink eyes? My dd has watery eyes with a yellowy puss and they got puffy and stuck shut when she woke up this morning. But, the whites of her eyes are still white. I'm in the middle of nowhere with less than reliable doctors, one of which said she had pink eye. But, doesn't pink eye require pink eyes? Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem...

It does sound like conjunctivitis, my daughters have had it without having bloodshot eyes. I've never heard it being called pink eye before.

Thanks, goingfor3 (good luck, by the way!). I guess maybe then there are types of conjunctivitis that don't make the eyes pink. I just thought pink eye and conjunctivitis were synonyms which was what confused me.
