do they take over after HV? dd was weighed and measured and then stickered afterwards ("I saw the school nurse today"). did we do this back in the '80s? can't remember!

My DD was weighed and measured in reception - had to sign a consent form prior.

Yes- as soon as a child starts reception- the school nurse takes over from the HV.

In this area, HVs only look after children under school age.

My kids were weighed, measured and had sight tests in Reception, but haven't been since. We now have a school nurse who does drop-in sessions twice a month. The children can't see her on their own (she wanted them to be able to, but most parents didn't approve), but parents can chose to see her either with or without their children.

I can remember having to strip down to vest and pants and lining up in the corridor to see the school nurse when I was in primary school, I think we saw her two or three times a year. She doubled up as the nit nurse as well.

Yep - the weighing and measuring is a new thing. Big government survey checking out the weight and height of children for statistics I think. I'm not a school nurse - used to be a HV and had to help the school nurse at some schools last year.

what are they checking though? how much everyone weighs?

I had a fantastic placement with a school nurse. I naively thought that all that they did was weigh/measure children and check for nits.

How wrong I was - fantastic, interesting job.
