Varicose vein stripping!

Has anyone had this done? Just wondering if anyone would mind telling me how it was, I am due to have this done soon. Were you back to normal quite soon afterwards or do you need to take things a bit more easily?
Thanks.

Can I be nosey, and ask why you'e having your veins stripped rather than injected. Is it because the varicose vein is above your knee?

I had mine done years ago (inherited condition) and was delighted they didn't come back during pregnancy (although veins just starting to go again - need to lose some weight!). It is quite painful afterwards - I had to wear a very attractive white surgical stocking and flat shoes for a number of weeks afterwards so make sure you have some nice long cool linen trousers to cover up! About two weeks off work (I'm a teacher and docs were worried about lengthy periods of standing) but the nuisance was having to go for a walk round the block every hour! The discomfort after surgery was nothing compared to the aching pain of the veins before surgery so well worth it in my opinion!

Hi, LS, the vein is above (and below unfortunately), I wasn't offered the injection, I think it is only available privately?

Slayerette - thanks for the tips! Am always happy to buy more shoes, even flat ones...

Glad to hear that you thought it was worth it.
