13 mo baby not weeing as much - is this normal?

Over the last few weeks I've noticed that DS is weeing a lot less. It used to be that almost every nappy was sodden, but now I sometimes find that a nappy is almost dry, even after a hour or two. Is this just what they do as they get older or should I worry?

I have gone back to work 2 days a week and so he's missing his lunchtime breast-feed two days a week. Could that be the cause?

Bump for any advice - sorry if this sounds like first-time paranoia but I am just worried because DS has never taken a bottle so I know he can't be getting much milk at nursery.

Do you think he can get enough fluid from just two breastfeeds a day and not much other fluid? He sips from a cup but doesn't take any real quantity.

My DS (14m) is also weeing a bit less, but he does drink from a sippy cup and a normal cup so I know he's getting his liquid. Don't know if it's normal though.

Oh thank you for replying! - so glad DS is not the only one cutting down.

He does drink from a sippy cup but he doesn't seem to increase the amount of water when he doesn't have a bf if you know what I mean.

DP thinks I am worrying too much and that it's just normal but we don't have anyone to compare with!

Unfortunately I didn't bf so can't tell if that makes a difference. DS no longer has bottles so gets all his liquid from sippy or normal cup and does drink quite a bit (cows milk and water) but we have had nappies recently with no or very liquid in them. Does your DS have cows milk yet or are you holding off on that until you stop bf? Sorry - I'm no expert I'm afraid, just doing what seems to work for us.

He does drink cow's milk but treats it like water - kind of sips a bit and swooshes some of it around his mouth and then lets it dribble out!

I think the problem is being bf he has never got used to the idea of taking large quantities of liquid from outside sources, iykwim. DP reckons if he's thirsty he'll drink more and that I shouldn't worry so much.

I guess your DH is right. Do your nursery tell you how much he drinks? Could you ask them to monitor it for a while?

maybe I'll ask them to keep an eye on it.

The trouble is I know (from trying to do it myself at home) that it's very difficult to monitor because he won't drink from valved cups, so most of the water just dribbles out, or else he sucks it out and then lets it dribble down his chin (deliberately!) The cup is always half empty at the end of a meal but I am never sure how much was actually drunk.

Thanks so much for the good advice, you've made me feel better!
