achey kidneys when needing a wee - is this normal?

The subject line says it all really - lately I've found that I get backache on one side whenever I need a wee, and it goes away once I've been to the loo. I feel fine generally, so is this normal? Does anyone else get it?

Think you might have a water or kidney infection. I would go to see the doc, you might need antibios

it just doesn't feel like cystitis at all - well, not like the kind of cystitis I've had before, when you're sick as a dog & pissing blood etc. And I don't need to go all the time or anything...

It could be reflux. There is a valve at the bottom of the tube that takes your wee from your kidney to your bladder which is supposed to stop any getting back up the tube. If this is faulty you can get kidney infections without any sign of a urine infection ie cystitis symptoms

I would go and see your gp, get tested for a kidney infection. They do some scans to see if you have reflux and if you do there is a simple procedure where they inject the valve with a bulking agent to stop the reflux

Drink lots of water. I know that means you'll need a wee more often and it will hurt, but you need to flush your system. Hope you feel better soon.
