Acid and bile Reflux hell :(

As the title states...

My ds2 is 10 soon. I've had bad reflux since being pg with him - I was huge and I'm only 163 cms - 9lbs 4oz baby, polyhyramnios and GD :(

Also developed gallstones during that pg too.

10 years down the line...
Gallbladder removed 5 years ago.
I've just had my 3rd gastroscopy and thank goodness nothing nasty showed up other than lots of bile in my stomach which Dr said he wouldn't normally expect.

No hiatus hernia.

No barratts oesophagus.

I've been on all sorts of meds over the years and currently on esomeprazole but it gives me stomach pain (but I'm now wondering if it's the bile causing pain??)

I wake up every day with a red raw throat and ear pain (the acid has gone through my eustacian tubes)
I drink gaviscon by the litre.

I'm making an appt with Dr tomorrow and taking my hospital letter but what do I ask?

Is there treatment for bile Reflux?

I'm raising the head of my bed, im going to cut out chocolate and coffee - I already cut out tomatoes and onions - I've done lchf before and it helped.

Is this it now? Will I be on these meds for the rest of my life??

Anyone got any tips/advice?

I really don't want an op!!!

Have you had any allergy tests?

My own experience of tummy issues were months of different prescription drugs, awful pain and camera which only suggested excess gas.

I paid privately for an allergy test and so many things came up, the main being gluten. It's helped changing my lifestyle although it's annoying at times!

Good luck op!

I agree, either test for allergies/intolerances or analyze the diet/food diary.

I get reflux if eating gluten so I stopped eating it, why suffer.

Have you been tested for H pylori? I had many of the symptoms you describe, and also had my gall bladder removed, but the acid reflux was getting worse and worse. I then tested positive for h pylori, took a course of three antibiotics, and it was life changing. If you haven't been tested, I'd recommend doing so.

Yoghurt makes my reflux worse as does white wine. Can’t eat fried food either. You could try altering when you take your pills to see if that helps.

I feel your pain. I suspect mine might have been triggered by antibiotics I had some years ago for wisdom tooth infections. It’s gradually got worse (significantly worse following a stomach bug last year) and it’s currently unbearable. Just got the results back and I don’t have h pylori so I’m booked back to see the gp in a couple of weeks. In the mean time the medication simply isn’t working and I could cry.

I’ve actually gained weight as eating seems to reduce the burn, temporarily at least. I was contemplating an elimination diet, but I’m not sure it is diet related. Until a couple years ago I could eat anything.

There are operations that can be done for some people for reflux - might be worth asking to see an upper GI surgeon (if that's not who did your OGDs). (Not a surgeon so don't know exactly what the indications/procedures are).
