My doctor has told me to give him squash but on the Ribena label it says not suitable for under 2 years.... So now i'm confused!
Can't have milk/dairy, won't have water and is more or less refusing to eat anything filling!!!!

Instead of squash, I dilute juice in about the same ratio. My DS is not keen on orange but loves apple juice in this way. Its such a small amount of juice that it shouldn't aggravate his tummy. Hope he gets better soon.

very thin soup? very diluted apple juice? you could get one of those organic very natural squashes from the health food shop. Rice, carrots and apples are all very good as a post-diarrhea cure as they help the body to hold on to liquids. If all else fails dioralyte solution? Or a bit of sugar dissolved in water?

I was recommended flat fizzy drinks (coke or lemonade) - & I'm sure ds was less than 9 mths when he got his first bout of gastro... apparently has the same sort of composition as diaoraltye. We were also recommended watered down rusks. Neither of those were things that normally featured on ds diet at 9 mths, I hasten to add

I tried sugar and water off a tea spoon for ages . Just to get some liquid in. Then moved on to apple juice again with water.
Grated apple . Dry biscuits. Also babyrice mixed with apple. Then went on to rice. In Italy they believe in the white diet for tummy bugs.( Rice, white meat - chicken, apple pear etc)
Hope feeling better soon my dd was floppy for a good few days.

Thanks for all the tips and ideas. Tried the dioralyte solution but that i ended up wearing most of it! Will try the white meat thing, he'll have to give in at some point!

Oh well, off for another night of NO sleep!!

Surely fruit juice is a bad idea for anyone of any age with diarrhoea- water or squash better and I dont think a bit of sugar in it will hurt just this once!

A small amount of fruit juice well diluted would be fine. Just enough to give the water some taste. The important thing is to replace the lost fluids.

DOn't worry your ds will eat when he is ready. Just try to keep giving liquids if throwing up then don't let him drink from the bottle or cup. But use a spoon and give a few tea- spoonfuls every 5 - 10 mins.
My dd hated the rehydrating stuff. I made my own with apple juice , watered down, a bit of sugar and salt. It went in !

Hope you both had a good night

Hi thanks again. We had a better night last night and this morning a nearly normal nappy! I can't believe i'd ever be so happy to change a pooey bum.

He has managed to eat chicken and mashed potato for his tea (hates potato normally!) so i'm hoping he'll sleep thru tonight and give me some sleep!
