Abdiminal Ultrasound today

I have an abdo ultrasound today to "rule out ovarian & abdominal pathology" - I know this means that my GP is concerned that ovarian, GI or other cancers may be present.
My question is - how much information can I expect from the doctor who is carrying it out? I obviously want to know what is going on.
(Not sure if it's relevant but it's a private scan.)

I had an abdo one recently, both external and internal, and was told there and then that all was clear.

I also had a breast one yesterday along with a mammogram and was told the results straight away.

Poor you, I can imagine how anxious you are. It isn’t always that the gp suspects cancer, but more of a ruling out one possible cause, if that makes sense.

They don't always tell you. Often the therapist who does them is not a doctor, and they send the results to your GP.

I had one Sunday for the same reason. Onky checked ovaries and uterus. Cervix needs be looked at separately. Mine were clear but still having issues . The ultrasound lady told me the results then advised me to get my cervix checked asap. Hope it goes well. May I ask what sort of symptoms your having. Wondering if they are similar to mine. Dr actually mentioned the word cancer to me which panicked the life out of me

Also please persist if the ultrasound comes back clear as like I say only rules out uterus and ovaries. Any other areas likely need investigation soeperatley. My Dr has run bloods urine samples swabs for infection all clear. So when he calls today I may have to put my foot up his arse for further investigation. Pain was so severe last night it took 2 tramadol a coedine and a buscopan before it was tolerable

I had one a few years ago to look at ovaries, bladder and kidneys. The sonographer told me then and there that everything looked fine, but also that US was no good for identifying bowel probs and that I’d have to have a colonoscopy for that. Hope it goes well for you today - I remember the anxiety.

She said she couldn't see my bladder had to do it internally as I hadn't drunk enough water and it was a hot day.

I had a large ovarian cyst which the sonography picked up immediately when I went for an early pregnancy scan

Also had my liver/kidneys/pancreas/gall bladder scanned when I was getting strange aches as my dad died of pancreatic cancer

Both times sonographer told me

Thanks for your replies.
My symptoms have been increasing in range & strength over the last 5 or 6 weeks and include: lower abdomen & diaphragm pain, loss of weight (1 stone), feeling full after only a small amount of food, bloating, fatigue, constipation, and so on. No bleeding or palpate-able masses.
Next step is endoscopy & colonoscopy if nothing comes of today.
Coincidentally had bloods done recently & nothing sinister there (tho not c125 or any other specifics)

Glad so many of you have positive testoutcomes for those of you still undergoing tests or treatments.

Good luck OP. I'm surprised they haven't done a CA125 blood test. The nurse told me I had a large mass there and then - they can't say 'cancer' as you would need additional tests to confirm / rule out. The waiting and not knowing is very difficult. I have everything crossed for you.

No specific bloods yet as GP appt only on Friday.
Existing chronic conditions dictated previous bloods (Can't remember exactly but they usually include crp, esr, ferritin, full blood count).

Ultrasound done, consultant's verbal report is that all pretty good - I'm so relieved!
No sign of any cancer or other issues in pelvic & upper abdominal areas.
It may take a while to get the 'oscopies as apparently I need to see another consultant first, but the ball is now rolling on that process.

My GP has referred me for gastrointestinal tests now - disconcertingly the process is known as the "cancer pathway". I'm focussing on the NHS reports that 90% of patients going through this don't have cancer, but that if you're one of the 10% then this is the best way to find it quickly.
We are so lucky in the UK: a free at use health service is an amazing privilege.

I had a good chat with a wonderful RL friend (& fab MNer) so feel strong enough to go on my own now.

Handsome young Dr, saw me - right on time too!
A bit of palpation & an inquisitive finger but otherwise painless (dignity was only slightly affronted!)
Going to have a camera in both ends, probably within the next fortnight, I'll find out the date tomorrow.
I hope that it'll all be easy & that the outcome will be something treatable; I just want the pain & nausea to stop & to get my appetite back!
