DD (7) sent home from school this morning 10:30. When we got home temp 37.7. Gave calpol anyway to be on safe side at 11. Took temp again 11:30 39.4. Gave ibuprofen 12:20 but temp still rising. Now 39.8. I don't know what to do. She is laying on sofa but not drowsy as such, just lethargic. She obviously did not eat lunch but has had some sips of water. I am a bit of a worrier anyway but what can I do about temperature. Had all the medicine she can have till 3pm. I have taken her covers off and put a fan on her but she is cold because of her fever, I assume. No other symptoms except lethargy and temperature. Worried the temperature will carry on going up. Please help.

have you got any Calpol? I normally find alternating Calpol/Nurofen brings it down.

Is she stripped off? Have you got a fan?

It's really tough because she is feeling freezing so does not want to strip off. Have her in a thin top and leggins. I had the fan on but she is saying how cold she is and wanted me to turn it off.

I was thinking of ringing NHS direct or doctor. Was not sure which would be the best. She was ok when she went off this morning so has come on so quick.

Would it be that awful if I gave her her next dose of calpol half an hour or so early?

I'd ring NHS Direct or your GP/Practice Nurse and ask for advise - that is a scary speed for a temperature to rise.

when dd has a temp, I strip her right off but keep socks on, it's on a sheet I was given by the hospital. Fan on etc etc, good luck

Thank you for the replies. She fell asleep in her bed and I uncovered her. About half an hour later she was spectacularly sick everywhere. I put her in the bath and dosed her up with the six plus calpol and her temperature has come down to 38.5 atm. She is laying on the sofa and watching the telly. I guess its going to be a long night.

Try something that will knock her out a bit so she'll hopefully sleep longer. I hate when they're sick. Why are they always sick at night???
