Help! Tonsillitis coming back?

NomsQualityStreets · 21/03/2018 15:35

I had horrific tonsillitis for 5 days about 2 weeks ago. Since then I've had the flu, an ear infection and past few days I've been struggling with a really bad cough, hot and cold shivers etc.

Today I seem to have a terrible pain in the left side of my throat especially when drinking or coughing. Feels like my tonsil has flared up again and I'm petrified it's coming back.

Is there anything I can do to try and ease it or (crosses fingers) avoid it?

Any advice would be great, I'm desperate it's been 3 weeks of illnesses and I feel like I will never get better.

Try gargling with saltwater. And take paracetamol regularly.

I hope you feel better soon Flowers

Have you been taking antibiotics?

Not taken any antibiotics.

I'm a bit run down as I'm not getting much sleep (3 mo baby) and I'm EBF so feels like I can't really rest.

I've had some lemsip which seems to have helped a bit but it breaks me out in a sweat.

I have so much to get done but I'm just woozy, I went dizzy just getting the pram out of the car at the school run today.

Get yourself to the GP tomorrow, sounds like you really need antibiotics

Pop to your local pharmacy in the morning and ask them to take a look at your tonsils. They wont be able to diagnose but are likely to be able to say if they think its worth visiting GP for. Obviously the majoriry of sore throats are viral and therefore dont respond to ABs, but they should be able to give a rough indication of if they look manky. Thats assuming you cant see them. Then march straight to the doctors after if need be. Most surgeries have acute appointments which are only bookable on the day. If you have super gross tonsils they show the receptionist if they seem difficult...it might help fit you in (it might not though...).

If you arent congested, dont bother with lemsip. Not much evidence the decongest in them (if its phenylepherine) works anyway, and they can cause palpitations which might be making you feel funny. Take paracetamol to help control your fever and pain, and invest in some Difflam spray or rinse.

Hope you feel better soon.
