Hip flexor pain

For a few weeks I’ve had pain in both my hips - worse on the left side than the right. It is particularly painful when I’ve been sitting for a while on a car journey or just in front of the tv. It’s not so bad at work as I am up and down from my desk constantly. I could do with losing weight, but what can I do to ease the pain without resorting to taking painkillers constantly?

You have my sympathy, I have had this since an accident nearly three years ago. I have the bursitis mentioned above plus tears in the tendons. Have had a lot of physio (excellent physiotherapist but not really much help though is improving general fitness), cortisone injection (did nothing) and had a PRP injection last week (which is still considered experimental but my dr thinks I have a 70% chance it will work, which seems good odds to me.) will report back on how I get on.

We spent 8 hours in the car over two days at the weekend so I'm guessing that's why it was so bad last night. Anyway, I took a naproxen and this morning was totally pain free. I hadn't taken anything at all for the pain before, but last night it was awful and I nearly cried with the pain. I need to see the GP really.

Stretching, gentle activity and set an alarm every hour to remind you to stand and mobilised
