Im 38, 5'9" and have just weighed myself and am 9st 5lb. Im fed up with people asking me if I have lost weight, someone just asked me in the supermarket which has led me to buying a box of jam doughnuts, I want to put on weight but worry about what I should eat which is healthy in order to do so. I have never dieted and eat three meals a day, often have cheese and biccys before bed, bananas and tea and biscuits in between. If I do miss meals for some reason or dont eat enough for a few days I do loose really really easily. is there anyone else out there like me.

may be try getting thyroid function tested. if it's overactive can lead to weight loss. there are usually other symptoms too, but not sure what they are.

Your BMI is 19.3 which is perfectly healthy. People probably comment because they are jealous of your slim figure IMO

I'm the same! Before 2 babies I ate for Britain but still weighed under 9st at 5'7". Now I'm just over 9 st and people no longer comment, thank god. I think a lot of looking thin is tiredness or stress and anxiety. It's not to do with size unless you are really too thin and all your bones are sticking out. It's really hard sometimes trying to keep the weight on especially if you have other things to do! I find I can put on a bit of weight by doing as little activity as possible and eating a lot. It's quite easy to pack away a few extra calories by adding seeds and nuts and olive oil to things. Sometimes I make yummy ratatoille (sp?) with masses of olive oil because it tastes good.

I'm the same but not as tall! I'm 5'3" and 6 stone 2lb. People always think I'm ill, anorexic, or (happily now that I'm in my late 30's) younger than I am. When I was in my 20's I was always mistaken for an anorexic teenager and told I wouldn't be able to have babies "when I grew up"! Now the equally small mother of DS1 and DS2 I get less hassle but people still think I'm ill.
I eat for England and add nuts, cheese and olive oil, cream and chocolate wherever I can. It makes no difference. Any more ideas? I'd love to be able to buy clothes easily and perticularly to have a busom!
HELP!

Homebird8 - your post has cheered me up immensely as I am the same height and weight as you! I know exactly how your feel. My mother always said you can't fatten a thoroughbred when she couldn't get me to put on weight despite her best efforts!

flamingtoaster - your mum sounds amazing. Mine just said "Have another little mouthful dear" as if I wasn't eating! Believe it or not she said it 3 times during my birthday meal for my 21st and by then I'd had enough and exploded under the cover of my special day! It didn't stop her though and I still get it sometimes though she concentrates more on herself nowadays as she's undergoing chemo and I get to eat a meal (as much as my 6'4" 16stone DH) without any needling

Me too! I'm 5'6" and weigh exactly 8st. I eat big healthy meals and plenty of not-so-healthy snacks , I've had my thyroid tested and it's fine. My face is quite thin too as a result of having lost pregnancy weight quickly 3 times, and that coupled with my naturally pale skin means I'm always being told that I look tired/ill, when I feel fine! Drives me nuts

Buying clothes in the UK is difficult too - I don't want to dress like a teenager any more, but more grown-up things aren't so easy to find in small, but not petite, sizes.

Oh frenchleave, you're so right. I'm always being told that I'm lucky and can buy children's clothes. But little girls aren't a woman's shape and I am. Plus, T-shirts with "Daddy's Little Angel" across them look a bit strange on a 30 something year old! I'm a size 4 top (yes a US size 0) and size 4 - 6 bottom. Almost impossible to buy for unless you get in first and like high street, high fashion.

you can get some more grown up stuff in topshop and h&m. think they both do size 4, definitely size 6. gap might aswell. asda are meant to be stocking some size 4's too.

Thanks everyone, im pale too and so if Im tired or stressed it does really show. sounds like Im not alone. People seem to think its okay to ask a thin person if they have lost weight, but I bet they dont ask a plump person if they have put on weight!, but the feeling that gives the person is still the same. Ive always been thin, I put a 2-3 stone on each pregnancy but lost it very quickly without any effort whatsoever and am now the weight I was pre-children.....other people dream of this I know. My Mum said its down to breastfeeding. I would love to be able to put on a few pounds and keep it there, will buy some nuts next time Im at the supermarket, would love to hear of other good healthy foods/meals which I could try.

The only way to gain weight is to eat loads of fat- and/or sugar-laden food and not burn it off, which can't be healthy. It means eating when you're full up/not hungry, which probably isn't in your nature. Maybe you are just meant to be skinny?

Don't fight it, buy smock tops and smile!

Or move to France, it's easier to be skinny here

pepsi, I feel your pain. I'm 5'4" and 8st - prior to ds2 I was 7st 7lb. Always been a consistent weight always been very slim. Doctor has always said that while my BMI is on the "underweight" scale that the BMI fails me as I have extremely fine bone structure.

Seems that being slim is carte blanche for people feeling they can be very rude and comment in a way that if it was reversed for someone overweight people would be shocked and horrified. It got to the point where I was virtually apologising for being me - fuck that for a game of soldiers.

What I'm concerned about is that by eating high calorie things I'm packing myself full of sugar and fat (even when it's nuts or cheese, the fat is still high) and that it will affect my health. Anyone know whether my choloesterol could be high for instance. My blood pressure is always through the floor.

normally this weight or less (preg at the moment so am a hippo) - I've never dieted & just eat what I want. Running after my lo's & bf uses up the excess. Ignore the comments - the average size is a 16 - so anything less will look very slim. If you're worried see your doctor to have acheck-up - perhaps low on iron if looking tried?
