Cervical erosion / ectropion

Hi everyone I don't really post on here but really wanting some advice! I have 2 children.
I've been having bleeding in between periods and after sex. I've had tests for STDS which I knew would be negative and then an examination today. The GP said I have ectropion/ erosion and my cervix is red with white spots. She has referred me to have a coloscopy. I was wondering if anyone has had similar and what was the outcome please. I'm really worried because she wasn't 100% certain and that's why I'm going for more tests. Thank you!

I've had treatment for the same thing more times than I care to remember! Every time I go for a smear I get the old silver nitrate on a swab to mildly cauterise (?) It. Although a few years ago I had it quite bad and had to go for it to be properly burned away (didn't think it was a colposcopy but might have been?) As I was having bleeding in between periods/after sex.

I doubt she send you for a colposcopy unless you'd already had borderline changes on a smear test so it really probably is just erosion. You get pretty bad cramps after the procedure, good excuse to not go back to work and indulge in a box set

Good luck, you'll be fine

This happened to me. I have 2 dd and started having bleeding after sex. GP took a look and said it looked like ectropian, sent me for a colposcopy. I went a few days later and they agreed it was a minor ectropian, it’s pretty common and sent me on my way. I then had a smear test a few weeks later and that was fine too. Try not to worry too much Flowers

Thanks so much for your replies! I'm so glad it turned out to be simple and easily treated! Google really isn't helping my worrying!!

She said it looked like erosion but she wasn't 100% so she's fast tracked an appointment for a coloscopy. How long did it take with you ladies? I'm just worried as I can't have a smear for another 2 years!

I was seen within 2 weeks, lucky me! I had to wait longer when I had severe cervical changes Hmm

Luck of the draw I think, if your appointment is a while off when it comes through keep ringing to see if there's any cancellations.

Honestly it's fine, now I think about it it must have been a colposcopy I had, Ive had that many medical instruments up there I get confused Grin

Thank you hopefully it'll be a similar time frame. She did mention something about 2 weeks! When I asked for a smear today (I knew I wouldn't get one as I'm too young) she basically said we're skipping that stage. She said if cells were abnormal on a smear I'd be then sent for a coloscopy so we're kind of skipping that because she's sure my cervix is abnormal basically. I know it's probably just erosion and easily fixed I just hate the thought of anything else going on. Google brings up the c word quite a lot so I'm glad I posted here and hear your positive experiences!

I have a cervical ectropian too which my doc diagnosed after a couple spotting episodes, I didn't get sent for colposcopy as she said it is that small they won't do anything to cauterise it but if my bleeding got worse (it hasn't) I could be referred. It's possible you are being sent to colposcopy for the treatment op if it's causing you lots of trouble

I had this a few months ago. Went for a colposcopy and the doctor thought I had CGIN/CIN3 but my biopsy results came back clear. Nevertheless, they are erring on the side of caution and I'm getting a LLETZ removal on Tuesday. Not looking forward to it, but hopefully that'll be the end of it all.
