To Expect My Arse Not To Leak?

PopACapInMyAssPlease · 21/12/2017 16:25

Warning: this is grim.

Have had bowel problems (read loose stools and anal leakage for a while).

Had a major episode after some pizza (ill for 2 days, crying on loo) so thought maybe I was coeliac/gluten intolerant and have been steadily working towards finding out exactly what upsets me, but still none the wiser.

Weetabix and Coco Pips are fine, bread with gluten in is not. I can (fortunately) cope with cake and had 2 slices of ciabatta last month with no ill effects.

So WTF is wrong with me?

I've succumbed to the D and V virus that's been going around, so I think my intestines are all a bit damaged and raw as I had some dry Frosties and was on the loo all the next day.

I'm really upset about this. My arse is literally leaking, constantly wiping/ showering my bum has set the piles my last DC gave me off.

Any ideas? If anyone hasn't had piles and the shits, believe me, I'm not exaggerating when I say I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy.

My bum makes me want to cry. Please help.

Cherry, I've been to my GP. I had a blood test - negative for Coeliac disease, although my cholesterol was a bit high.

I'm not leaking fat...I'm leaking poo, although admittedly my diet could definitely do with less fat in it.

I've got some VLCD shakes in my cupboard from years ago. I'm seriously thinking about going back on these a while, just so I don't have to eat.

Off to check out low residue diets...

Back to the Dr and get checked for Proctisits/Colitis. These are part of my symptoms with Ulcerative Colitis.

Sorry I don’t have an answer just offering my sympathy. Suffer exactly the same, no idea what the triggers are. It varies one time one thing can set me off next time it doesn’t. Been to doctors loads had all the tests all negative and just get told it’s ibs. Fed up of taking medication to on and off just would like to find my trigger and cut it out.
Also have piles too so know your pain there Sad
I think a lower fat diet would help me also but I can’t even eat most fruits as they also have a habit of triggering me off. Not chocolate tho I could eat a tonne of chocolate and be fine. However a pear and a banana in the same day! Makes me bad! Go figure! Makes no sense half the time.
Sorry rant over - sorry for boycotting your thread with my rant also xx

I someone’s get this when my ibs is really bad. My worst trigger is wholemeal bread, particularly seeded and really greasy stuff like fish and chips or take away pizza.

I was like this and it was IBS. Please go and see your GP who can you refer you to a specialist. My sympathies, I know how miserable it is. x

Nottsangel I wonder if fructose your trigger but glucose in chocolate is fine? It might be worth looking at a fodmap diet.

I think I've read that pelvic floor dysfunction can cause this (as well as urine leakage) - worth investigating if it's been since childbirth?

Assuming you're pushing your doctor, also look at the Fodmap research. fodmapfriendly.com/what-are-fodmaps/
" The term FODMAPS is an acronym that stands for: Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols. They are a collection of poorly absorbed simple and complex sugars that are found in a variety of fruits and vegetables and also in milk and wheat."
There's a really good app from Monash university which will help you track your intake. It's done wonders for a friend who was really struggling with what her triggers are.

Thanks all.
Feel free to derail and share your bowel troubles!

As hideous as it is and I'm sorry for you all, it makes me feel a little better knowing I'm not the only one.

It's gross. I'm paranoid about smelling of shit. I'm sticking wads of paper between my cheeks in the hope of catching it before it soils my pants and makes me too sore to walk properly.

Bluebell I am sometimes unable to hold my wee in and piss myself, but only sometimes. I can generally cough and sneeze ok.
I did think I had a prolapse after my last child as it all felt so different down there and lumpy and bumpy where it shouldn't be, but I had it checked out my 2 nurses who assured me my bits looked like someone with 3 kids. I assume that means wrecked.

It gets worse, doesn't it! Fortunately, I have depression, anxiety and mild agoraphobia, so only go out on the school runs so don't subject people to my pissy shitty self. Sad

You should request a scope for diverticulitis.

Vaseline is your friend here. Apply as needed to prevent you getting sore.

Sorry you are feeling bad today. Hopefully things will improve soon.

To all those with IBS, how was it diagnosed? Does a diagnosis actually help? After the negative coelic result, my Dr just poo pooed (no pun, honestly!) my concerns and said steer clear of gluten.

I'm not confident anyway, but don't know how to push this with my him. Just ask to be referred to a bowel specialist?

Sounds like Crohns or colitis symptoms. Get. To. The. Doctors. STAT! Also, whack some Sudocrem on your bumhole; I am a long term IBD sufferer and I know it really helps. I have to eat quite a bland diet but it's no particular thing that causes the issues i.e. not gluten or lactose, but random things with those in. Some IBDers can't eat tomatoes, but I can.

Could it be a reaction to medication? I had nearly a year of chronic diarrhoea after taking heavy duty antibiotics and naproxen for a stubborn ear infection. Immediate reactions to certain foods that made it impossible to eat out, it was really depressing. It's gradually cleared up but I had colonoscopy etc and nothing was found so diagnosed as ibs. Totally gone now though so part of me thinks there was a trigger that's resolved itself.

My user name is unrelated but apt!

My dsis has had IBS for years and her trigger is pizza. Lo and behold about two years ago I ate a pizza and had this really weird experience.

Woke up in the night with an awful tummy ache. Went to the loo and was constipated but managed a poo, so I went back to bed thinking how strange. 30 minutes later I was up with the most explosive diarrhoea if ever had. And it went on and on all night. My tummy wasn't right for days.

And it happens every time I eat pizza. So I don't eat pizza any more, but I have had it happen with a panini.

I wonder what it is about pizza? I think the answer is a low FODMAP diet.
Hope you feel better soon.

I know you're not leaking fat but fat is what triggers the gastric colic reflex and can make the poo leak more and more

I have Crohn's. Some of your symptoms are similar to IBD.

I was only diagnosed this year after two years of problems. At first they thought I had food poisoning, then celiac which tested negative. After that I had my calprotectin tasted which measures the level of inflammation in the bowel (think what someone else was referring to above) that came back as 3/4x the normal levels. Then theu started the ibd route.
Unfortunately for me none of the usual tests (colonoscopies, mri, ct scans) showed anything. Was only when I was sent for a less common test they found it! Had that not been successful they were going to go down a dietry route which would mean I wouldn't have had the steroids and immunosuppressants that have sent me into remission.

Basically what I'm saying in a long and waffled way is don't let them fob you off! You know it isn't normal. If possible go to a different GP!

I have IBS and bile salt malabsorption, I am no stranger to diarrhoea, had it most of my life, in fact today has been a bad day, spent most of it on the loo, and i have wiped that much today, i am bleeding and soreHmm

I take a lot of Loperamide regularly and use wet wipes and Sudacrem

There are soo many foods that trigger mine, i can hardly eat anything

Thanks all. You all have my utmost sympathies. I never realised how common these poo problems were.

This has been so much more helpful than Dr Google (which is why I said about not leaking actual fat as some things I looked at had that as a symptom). Everything I looked at led me to gluten.

I am definitely determined to return to my GP and try and get something done/more testing.

I've just had to have a shower after Preparation H burnt like a bitch and slapped on the zinc and castor oil cream. Will get Sudacrem tomorrow.
Bleeding and painful to walk now (although Dances made me laugh so much with "Nothing like the possibility of shitting yourself to calm your nerves"!!)

Giving the kids an early night and trying to follow suit. Just feel so physically drained from all of this.

Thanks again.

I should really try following the low fodmop but it’s so difficult when you have a proper foodie husband who does all the cooking and thinks your been awkward. Hmm
To the poster who said about the fructose you may be right about that. Don’t get me wrong I have flare ups with other things not just fructose but it does make sense. I did read somewhere that peeled fruit is also better? Not sure. Blueberries set me off too. Yet grapes seem ok.
I feel so sorry for everyone on here but it’s nice knowing your not alone. I work full time and have only 2 toilets between an office of 25 people. It’s impossible to go to the toilet without someone waiting. I absolutely dread bad days in case I need to go. I just take loperamide (much to regularly) and try and hold until lunch when I can go to public toilets (work in town) it’s so embarrassing!
Op go push your dr more. I’ve been at least 6 times this year but just get fobbed off with ibs and that’s fine if it is they just don’t offer any help in trying to find triggers etc
Will bite the bullet and try fodmop in the new year I think (have a house full of chocks to eat first)
I do take silicol gel when I know I might eat something that sets me off such as if going for a meal out or takeaway. It seems to help. Just weary about taking it daily plus it’s quite expensive!
