Brown age spot went dry and is now red?

I have a couple of light brown age spots on my face, one is just under my eye. If anything, they just look like splats of fake tan (!), and haven't bothered or worried me.
About 2 weeks ago, the one under my eye went dry and the skin flaked off (think 'dry skin that's not been moisturised), and it's now a pinky colour and slightly risen.
I don't want to worry unnecessarily but is this normal?! Should I go and see my GP or just wait and see if it goes brown again?
