I had a head injury and I'm concerned

So I hit my forehead really bad. It swelled up really bad and is very badly bruised. The most impact was the area just above my eye brow. I went to A and E because of it looking is bad. He looked at it and just handed me a minor injury letter. I’m still worried because when I feel inside the swelling, it feels like I can feel any bone underneath and worried that I have a hole in my forehead or am I imagining it. If I do have a hole is it dangerous and will it heal? I’m panicking !

I’m sure if the A and E doctor thought you needed any treatment the6 would have insured you got it.
You must have got a hell of a fright so I’m not surprised you,re feeling panicky. Take care of yourself and take it easy and I’m sure it’ll heal fine.

Most likely you can't feel bone because of all the selling and that can take a while to settle down.

Can you try distracting yourself with some TV, music or book. And breathe, take care.

What did you hit your head on? There is very little chance you have a hole in your skull. You need to stop looking for one though, if you keep pressing the swelling you will make it worse.

I'm presuming that you mean 'when I feel inside the swelling I can't feel any bone underneath'?

Try not to worry. When you hit your head hard, one of three things can happen:

1. Your brain moves backwards, forwards or side to side in your head, and you get bruising or bleeding in your brain. If this happens, you would have signs (observable things to the person examining you, that are different from normal, such as unequal pupil dilation) or symptoms (things you experience that are different from normal, such as headache, confusion, etc) of a head injury.
   
2. You get bruising or bleeding in the outside of your head, with or without damage to the skull bones.
   
3. Both.
   

The person who saw you would have checked you over for 1. You are also typing coherently, don't sound confused, and don't mention any symptoms that give the impression that you are very unwell (although the internet isn't a good way of deciding, so if you think you are, get help).

However, you say your forehead is very bruised. Foreheads have a very, very good blood supply, and they can bruise spectacularly. They also get very 'boggy' when you damage them. In other words, they swell quite impressively with fluid, much the same as your knee can when you fall over. That swelling and fluid can move down around your eyes, too - it's just gravity and the way your body absorbs it.

But back to your 'hole'. Because your forehead has swollen up, it's got very puffy and boggy. So your bones in your eyebrows, etc., which are very small and delicate, will be really hard to locate with your fingers, because it's like trying to feel them through an inflated swimming pool arm band. There's no hole, it's just that the skin over that area has been overinflated. Put some frozen peas in a plastic bag and wrap the bag in a tea towel, then gently hold it over that area. It will help to take down the swelling.

I hit it hard on a sharpish object. It was above my eye brow and I can see the red mark outline of the object and on that space it feels like there is no bone there but there is on either side. Maybe it is just the swelling like you all said. I’m too scared to sleep I know it’s daft but I guess I just need to keep my mind off it
