I have had a cold for a few weeks, culminating on feeling very streaming and rough on saturday.
last night and the night before I can't sleep for the tightness in my chest.
it is Awful. I thought about going to A & E
i go for a walk with my dog and it is awful.
driving or sitting at home seems ok.

there is nothing to Bring up, if you like. I dont smoke, I vape. at least with smoking I would have had a productive cough.

what is the cure?

How do you know you don't have pneumonia?
Chest tightness needs to be checked

Ok!!! You go to your GP for General Health matters like a cold or a virus!

You go to A&E for an Accident or an Emergency!!!

So go your GP!

No but you do if you’re struggling to breathe. That shit is important.

If you can’t breathe then you may not be able to work at some point for a hefty chunk of time that could have been avoided if you’d dealt with it earlier.

You don’t get chest tightness from a cold. You need your chest listened to by a doc and possibly antibiotics.

I agree to seeing your doctor

But on a practical note, slowing down your breathing and trying to breathe in for 3 then out for 11, focusing on breathing from the bottom of your stomach always helps me (I have asthma and regularly get chest infections)

You need antibiotics for a chest infection

Sounds like a asthma inhaler or steroids would help, only available from GP. Other than that the usual things like Vicks might help.

You go to your GP.

Your cold has gone on for a few weeks. It is not getting better.

You have tried sitting it out - it hasn't worked. And now you feel tight chested at night. That's not a symptom of a cold.

Go and see a real live GP. You may have a chest infection. You may have asthma. You need to see a real doctor.

I agree, PLEASE don't just try the breathing thing and ignore all other advice

Please also see a GP

A few weeks ago I thought I had flu, had temp, fever, tight chest and vomiting. I didn't go to see the GP for 3 days, he prescribed antibiotics, then went again after another 2, more antibiotics and a chest xray, ended up immediately being admitted to hospital with pneumonia for 5 days and am still off work two weeks later, recovering, signed off for a further two weeks.

Go and see your GP asap.

I had a cold 3 weeks ago, the cold went after 10 days, I was left with a bark like a dog, tightness in my chest and sore ribs every day time I coughed (which was often), gave in and went to to the doc, was given antibiotics for the chest infection and a big talking to for not going earlier!!! Just go to the GP.

Report
Fairylea · 10/10/2017 16:01

Why on earth wouldn’t you go to your gp? Chest tightness and feeling unwell could be an infection that needs antibiotics before it turns nasty. Any chest pain needs checking to make sure it isn’t something serious. You absolutely need to see your gp.
