DD(6) has peeling soles of feet and peeling thumbs. Any ideas what this could be?

She's been very quiet and off-colour all week. Her voice keeps going and she's very chesty, now I've noticed these peeling skin patches on the soles of her feet and thumbs. I thought it was glue . That's exactly what it looks like, old glue that you can pick off.

I've rung the docs to see if they can fit her in some time day, waiting for a call back.

Any ideas/experience of this. Thanks.

Not wanting to worry you, but it sounds like the symptoms for Kawasaki, which IIRC Esbees ds had recently.

ds had this and was given a fairly long course of antibiotics. They thought he may have had scarlet fever or some sort of strep infection (as he'd had a sore throat prior to the peeling skin).

I thought hand, foot and mouth was blisters though

"Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a common illness of infants and children. It is characterized by fever, sores in the mouth, and a rash with blisters. HFMD begins with a mild fever, poor appetite, malaise ("feeling sick"), and frequently a sore throat. One or 2 days after the fever begins, painful sores develop in the mouth. They begin as small red spots that blister and then often become ulcers. They are usually located on the tongue, gums, and inside of the cheeks. The skin rash develops over 1 to 2 days with flat or raised red spots, some with blisters. The rash does not itch, and it is usually located on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. It may also appear on the buttocks. A person with HFMD may have only the rash or the mouth ulcers. "

is this what its like?

Hmmmm, you're right. Just been googling it myself. Doesn't really sounds the same. It's definitely peeling skin, as I said before, like glue stuck to her thumbs (and also fingers now), and soles of feet. She's much better today though, eating more and running round the garden, so not too worried. I do remember reading about a vitamin deficiency causing peeling skin but that seems a bit drastic for a 6 year old, her diet isn't that awful.

A neighbour thought you could pick hand, foot and mouth up from farms - not washing your hands properly. We have visited a couple of farms this week.

its a virus

if it doesn't get any better I'd get a 2nd opinion on that diagnosis

but then I have remarkably little trust for some GPs

if it is improving I'd not worry

I didn't even see a doctor, just the nurse and she was studying the computer (probably goggling!), whilst diagnosing her, so little faith on the diagnosis here too!!

I'm not too concerned as she does seem so much better but will get a second opinion if it spreads or she feels worse.

Thanks for replies.
