High Temp in a 23 month old...teething?

My 23 month old ds has had quite a high temp for the last 36 hours. He has been quite clingy, not eating, a bit more sleepy than normal and his cheeks have been very flushed. Last night his temp was 39.1, even with Nurofen, so I took him to the emergency docs. They managed to bring his temp down and checked him all over. They advised it is either a viral infection or teething (He still has his 4 back molars to come in.)

He woke up at 7am and had a drink and a jaffa cake and seemed a bit brighter. He is back asleep now but I'm not surprised as he was up until midnight.

Could it be teething that is causing his temp? He never had much bother getting the rest of his teeth in. Or is it more likely to be an infection, in which case my 11 month old dd will probably get it too.

Oh happy days It's just one thing after another at the moment.

Hi. My DS (13 months) is very much like this at the moment and he is def teething (although DP says I blame everything on teething).

Has had a high temperature on and off for weeks, always coinciding with the red cheeks, seems tired a lot but not sleeping properly during the night (not that he ever does to be honest), off his food, etc.

Have noticed that his bottom gum looks really swollen and kind of blueish like they are bruised in the molar area! Which is weird cause at the moment the poor little mite only has 6 teeth so thought they would be ages before coming!!!

He was due his MMR a few weeks ago but still hasn't had it cause I wouldn't know if he had a temperature/illness whether it was due to his injection or his teeth!

Hope things get better soon!
