very painful swollen knee

Fell over off a stool three weeks ago, sprained my ankle and that cleared up after a couple of days,.and then my knee started swelling up. It looked like 'housemaids knee' put some volderal gel on, but didnt do much.
Tried raising it, and trying to rest it. but tricky with physical job.
my knee looks a bit elephant like and very painful, whole leg one huge huge throb.
tried to get doctors appointment but that seems to be very tricky these days.
any ideas what to do next?

Is it worth a daytime trip to your local minor injuries unit?

I'd definitely see GP or minor injuries for that.

got appointment with GP this afternoon, its been bloody agony this morning with shooting pains down my leg. very odd.
