Shins like a crocodile handbag - really dry skin - help!

My skin feels tight and dry all over to the point of looking almost scaly i.e dry and sort of cracked looking on my shins, with dry patches on my arms, shoulders, buttocks. I have tried E45 and also that Bio Oil but without any luck. I have also tried exfoliating with sea salt type scrubs and find that while they leave my skin temporarily smoother they have no lasting moisturising effect. Any suggestions oh wise ones? I hate the thought of stripping off for summer with my skin in such a shocking state! I already take omega 3 oils by the way - would vit E help?

You could try using something like these exfoliating gloves every time you shower, and follow with something like the Hemp body butter which is very rich. I suspect you do need to do both, not just one or the other though. Sounds as if you've been doing the right things - just need to step it up a notch - especially moisturising every time you have a bath or shower.

I also use the Body Shop body butter on my hideously dry legs, its really rich and works!
Use it EVERY DAY!

And have used the exfoliating gloves on the top of my pimply arms, they're really good as well.

I use the hemp hand cream on my horribly dry hands (as recommended on here) and yes, it's fab. The key is in doing it regularly, and that's why using the gloves with your regular shower gel is easier than using a separate scrub, at least that's what I find.

Jackie I had the white gloves, got called 'Michael Jackson', never left them in public view again!

I've got the white ones too. They're stuffed into a pocket of the DCs' bath toy holder, so it's not obvious that they're gloves.

try something containing urea, works very well for dry scaling skin eg aquadrate or eucerin cream.
You could also try Hydromol . The best cream is though the one you like, so keep on trying and testing them.

bodyshop body butter - works a treat for me oh, I've tried supplements too but nothing seems to make any difference.

You need E45 moisturising cream. I use it every day, great stuff.

As well as applying stuff to your skin, or bathing with emollients in the bath water, try taking supplements - Evening Primrose Oil is great - and make sure you drink lots of water. 2 litres per day should make a real difference.

you need to go at it from the inside as well the outside. Get a good Omega3 & 6 supplement - I really notice a difference in my skin and hair if I take them. Honest, try it for a couple of weeks.

Diprobase cream is amazing...my DS is prescribed it for his eczema but I nick a bit now and then when my skin (body or face) is dry. You can buy it over the counter now, I gather.
