Trans-vaginal scan

After 'womaning up' and going to the doctors about bleeding between periods for a year , i am being sent for a trans-vaginal scan to check for anything untoward, what happens ? as my bleeding is at best unpredictable can I go if I am bleeding ? I have also had a swan and internal and am being sent for blood test for thyroid levels and anaemia. All good fun on your first day off on your own in 8 months.

Give them a call and ask. I had one last week and it wasn't stressful, all the staff were lovely.

I have also had a swan

you have had a swan? Congratulations! Is this the reason for your scan? Grin

It's nothing, honestly. Yes you can usually have it if you are bleeding. They use a huge condom on the probe, so it ought not to be a problem. I suppose if it was the first day and the flow was heavy it might be a bit of an issue for you rather than them.

The whole thing takes less than 5 minutes and the best part is I've never had to have a full bladder. They don't (where I've had it done) do your tummy - just vaginal.

You lie down, they put a wedge shaped cushion under your bum and away they go. Dim lighting, bit of a prod around, and that's it.

I have had trans vaginal scans quite a few times, at least twice I was bleeding at the time. They will be very used to seeing a bit of blood, so try not worry about that, embarrassing as it may feel to you. I would tell the sonographer you are bleeding when you first go in so they will know to expect it and maybe put down some extra paper towels on the couch.

If you are at all worried about it then give them a call to check, but I really don't think it will matter.

The scan itself isn't exactly fun, but it also shouldn't be painful or anything. I would say it's just a little uncomfortable. No worse than having a swab would have been. It will be over before you know it.

Good luck, and I hope you get some answers.

No swan Polly Grin just a swab.
Thanks for the replies, I am fairly sure it is something hormonal and this is just to rule anything else out so not too worried about the scan itself, just thought it might be impossible to do if they could not do it when I was bleeding if my bleeds are unpredictable.

I have had dozens of these , always worried because I have vaginismus but they use that much gel its actually OK. It does hurt a bit when they probe me but I'm always sore in there anyway. I'm usually bleeding somewhat as well. They ask for an empty bladder usually, as if not it blocks the view or something.

I've also had dozens of them, Including while I've been on my period and while bleeding during pregnancy

They cover the probe in a condom, so it's absolutely fine to have it done while you're bleeding.
Obviously just remember to take a spare tampon which you if you use them, because you'll have to remove the one you've got in order to have the scan

They will be able to see from the scan that you're bleeding, so will probably comment on it (and ask you to confirm) but you can tell them before they start if that makes you feel more comfortable
