Strange movements in abdomen

For the last week, I've been having bizarre movements just below my belly button. It's like a baby moving. You can see the movement even through a jumper and DH has witnessed it too. It happens several times an hour, for a few seconds at a time. It might stop for a few hours, but then starts up again. There's no rhyme or reason to it in terms of time of day, of what I'm doing though I notice it more when sitting/ lying down.

I'm not pregnant (currently have period - plus the strength of them would be 6month + baby kicks and I have had no pregnancy symptoms at all). I'm 50. The DC are early teens.

I had a smear test a few days before all this started up and the nurse couldn't feel the strings of my Mirena so has already referred me for an ultrasound (likely to take a month or so to come through). I don't think there's any point seeing a GP as I'm already going to have the ultrasound.

Can anyone shed any light or had similar? It's freaking me out a bit to be honest.

Is it at all possible, even in the tiniest way, that you are in fact 6 months pregnant and it's one of those pregnancies where you just didn't realise yet? I know bleeding can continue, and maybe the placenta is lying in a particular place that has masked the kicks until now?

Are you sure you're not pregnant? How period like have your periods been?

A bit longer and lighter than normal but that happened as soon as I had the Mirena put it and I know that's to be expected. (Had Mirena put in because of heavy periods). I will do a preg test as I know if I do go to the doc they will ask, but there's no way I can be as not a single symptom.

Have you had an change in bowel movements, could it be trapped wind in your guts? Could air have been introduced into your womb via the smear?
If it's in one very specific spot every time, could it be a muscle twitching. And now that your Mirena strings are missing you are noticing this sensation more than you might any other time?
Could you video it on your phone and then you'd have to show the doc at the scan. All sorts of weird stomach stuff happens around menopause age I found. I had a 'rippling and fizzing sensation' which was stomach acid when I lay on my side. That definitely felt like baby kicks. Sorry not to be of any more help. My GP might say something like 'if it is still there in a week come back to us'.

It really does sound like pregnancy, it couldn't be wind could it? I know I've had very strong wind which actually made my belly move before but it would be unusual for it to persist for several days.

Mirena is hormonal isn't it so could be causing bleeding even if you were pregnant - and I have heard of women falling pregnant on the Mirena before Shock Someone has to be the 1%, I suppose!

I hadn't though of stomach acid...everything else normal and really doesn't feel like wind! Could well be muscle twitching but it's so....intense. It isn't a quick twitch, it lasts a few seconds.

I thought pregnancy tests stopped showing positive after a certain amount of weeks? Ie no point testing in later pregnancy?

My friend was 7 months gone before she realised she was pregnant. She had zero symptoms other than a bit of tiredness which was explained away as other things.

Definitely take a test just to rule it out

My lower belly has phases where it looks and feels like a baby's kicking in there. It's been happening on and off for years and no baby has appeared.

I sometimes get that after I eat dairy. I'm intolerant but I sometimes just think fuck it and eat a cake or ice cream. A few hours later you can see my abdomen moving. It bloody hurts though. Are you having any pain with it?

ohwhatisit · 20/09/2017 10:56

GrocklesBocs, have you ever seen a doctor about it? Does the 'kicking' go on for several days at a time?

I have had this with my last two periods, I am due on any time now so expecting it again.

The first month I wad convinced I was pregnant despite having a coil because it was so frequent and exactly like pregnancy movements. Negative test and it went away when my period ended.
Next month the same again.

No idea what it is but you are not alone in it.

Hawkmoth · 20/09/2017 11:05

Which worms can you see moving through clothes?

I haven't as such, no but I have IBD so my bowels are prone to oddness. From threads on MN it's not that uncommon. It tends to happen in little patches so maybe a couple of occurrences and then nothing.
I could be wrong and you should definitely test but it could be a non pregnant thing.

If you find out what it is please update as it was driving me crazy. I had actually convinced myself I was pregnant so much i was disappointed not to be even though I have a coil and take the pill to make sure it doesn't happen.
