Vagina smells of burnt rubber

electra99 · 03/09/2017 13:35

I've noticed a strong heavy vaginal odour that smells like burnt rubber. I've no pain or discharge or itching. Just the smell.
It's not there all the time, but it not pleasant when it is!!

Anybody any ideas?

It could be nothing but regardless of no pain or itchiness I think you should make a GP appointment ASAP.

Sounds odd. You haven't lost a condom or anything "up there"?

Report
electra99 · 03/09/2017 22:56

no lost condom!
I'm used to the smell of thrush, but this is totally different!

Lots of women think their bits smell when in fact it's a normal smell. I can't say I'd know what burnt rubber smells like tbh.

Did you recently have a coil put in?

I'd go to a clinic and get it checked out just to be sure. What do 111 say?

Sorry not 111 I mean the non emergency number

diet changes? diabetes? nylon lycra pants? gained weight? bath products? hormonal? new sex partner? new medication? lube? sex toys?

Could be something you've eaten, could be hormone related too. Are you menopausal?

Hi, nope to all the ones above other than yes - I have a new sex partner - the third in my lifetime! He's not mentioning it.
I have had a coil fitted - but the smell was there before.

Did you find out what it was? I’m having the same problem, recently had a smear and it came back fine. It comes and goes 😭

I have this same problem. I’ve been having it on and off for about 3 years now. Recently the smell has stayed for about 4 months and it’s really distressing me. Earlier this week went got a check up and everything came back negative. Not even thrush or bv. I’m totally confused and distressed by this now. It’s driving me absolutely made.

Yip me too, it's driving me crazy, my doctor gave me a gel to insert for a week to help with PH balance, worked for a few weeks then it's back again. I'm 46 so could be to do with being perimenopause. The smell is stronger after sex. It can smell like balloons too "party time" but not one I'm happy to attend.

Is this still a probem for you?

Hey there, this is a problem for me that comes and goes.

Background: 30, LADA Type 1 Diabetic, IUD and prone to infections. Blush Sad

Recently finished a round of antibiotics for a BV infection and now the smell is noticeable again. I know that not drinking enough water can cause this odor for myself (as I drink a lot of coffee). I'll try to pay attention to whether it seems affected by sex toys or intercourse.

Hi ladies I think I know what the problem may be I’m not a doctor, but I to get the same smell of burnt rubber or burnt hair smell, it’s like a nair hair removal smell lol... ok so first my periods are abnormal I don’t get my periods how I’m suppose to so backed up blood could be one reason also I’ve noticed the smell more when I use scented perfume body washes that can also throw off your ph balance a lot so I use feminine products down below also unscented for sensitive skin dove soap is good for down there. Those scented body washes keep those above the waist, also there’s this natural herb honey pot that’s good to.. well I hope I helped cause it works for me and my smells lol

Some medications and even short term stronger than usual diet can create that smell. It can be the coatings or cases of certain pills. An example is Gabapentin ( ie slow release 'plastic' style coatings) sometimes you can taste or smell a hint of the same on your breath. Other capsules can do it. We are what we eat! Also over washing can cause a kick up in your vagina. Foods also effect the smell of your vagina quite quickly, I'd suggest this..... if you can handle it... give yourself a day wash free in cotton undies. Then drink lots of water and gentle food like boiled rice and melon, with no pungent scent...no garlic or onion or fish or spices or heavy sugar intake (alchol too!). Then wash gently with something like femfresh but in a shower not bath so you can fully wash it away. You could go as far as a mineral water douche ( you can buy simple rubber bulb style douces on amazon) sometimes a slightly tilted cervix can trap moisture and create a slightly fermented scent too. if you are sexully active with men take a break from seamen and condoms, if you are menstating use towels not tampons this time. once it eases another top tip is using somehting like BV treatment Gel for a week, it can be good for sort of 'resetting' your balance! Hoe that helps! Feel free to ask me anything,

I know it was a typing mistake but love that as we are on about vagina issues 'hoe that helps' 😂 but I feel like your message was very helpful and relatable. But in all seriousness I have recently had this problem went from using femfresh to zeroderm to even Johnson's baby shampoo out of desperation and now down there goes from a weird fishy to foul to burnt smell and it's horrible so self conscious with my long term partner but he was drunk and even said so what if you smell. Which one hand is alright but then solidifies you smell so either way you can't win

I started having this smell also and I’m 46. I’m wondering if it’s a pre menopausal thing??
