High Temp - how many days before going back to Dr?

Ds (just turned 4) has had a high temp for 4 days. The highest I have recorded is 39.85C (103.7F). He went to the Dr when it went over 103F and they just said it's a viral thing and it should be gone by Sunday. Well today he's been running about again which is great (he's just been sleepy which is unlike him, even when he's ill). So, it looks like he's on the mend, still not eating great but at least more lively.

This evening he looks like he may have conjunctivitis coming so plan to take him to the chemist tomorrow. He's still very bunged up, pale and now this. Temp this evening was 101.2 so not as bad but certainly not gone. I'm sure this is fine but he's never had a temp for this long so I wondered if anyone can reassure me that this is normal? Just trying to decide whether to go back to the Dr's about his eyes and mention this or whether I'm being silly and can just go to the chemist.

He had Slapped Cheek a few weeks ago and I'm wondering if he's still run down from this.

TIA

he will still be run down
but mostly high temp is caused by an infection possibly chest (lot of them going round due to the colds and viruses)
i would get him checked over again at gp out of hours
just to make sure
good luck

Thanks doormat. I've made an appointment (great automated booking service at my surgery! ) for tomorrow as he's certainly better so don't think I need to do out of hours. Thanks for reassuring me that it's ok to go back to the Dr's - you know how they make you feel like you've wasted their time sometimes! At least I should be able to get something for his eyes on prescription this way, could do with saving pennies right now!

Lots of viral illnesses cause high temps, my dd and ds1 both had high temps last week and it lasted for days. Saw dr and he said can go to 104 and still be ok. Dd is 5 and ds1 3. Did have to take dd to the dr twice in one day when her temp went from 104 to 106 and she wasn't herself but she was fine. High temps are good because it's the body's way of dealing with the germs, the temp kills them off.

That's reassuring. Will get his eyes checked out tomorrow and mention all the rest and see what they say/suggest

Just went to check on him and he was soaking wet from sweat. Checked his temp and it's gone to LOW now - 94.7F (34.83C).

Is this normal to be dry when high temp and then sweat like mad when low? His whole pj top was wet, his pillow and his hair were too. He woke up and cried for ages, well moaned and has just settled off to sleep. I'm pretty sure the moaning was due to being wet and yucky by the sounds of it.

that temp is quite low, i would keep a close eye on him, what sort of thermometer do you use? i would be inclined to phone nhs direct if it continues, im sure its ok but just to be on safe side and not have to deal with it at 2am!

i would imagine it's the sweating that has brought his temperature down low, after all thats what it's for.

if it's any help. ds1 has had a low temperature when recovering from a virus before.

Dd and I have both had conjunctivitis as part of a flu type bug - doctor told me it was 'only viral' (ONLY?) and that none of the medicines for conjunctivitis would work. It has now been over 2 weeks for me and my eye is till gunky but it is better than it was. Dd tarted before me and hers comes and goes...

Thanks for that, we'll keep a very close eye on him. We use the thermometer that goes in his ear to take his temp. We're off to bed now so will keep popping in and checking on him.

Thanks for the advice. Was just a little worried as we've never had this with ds before.
